Tired of fane breakers, just START over!

With as frustrated as I've been with problems in this game, it iS a game you should play multiple times. I'm on my 3rd playthrough (managed to get around major freeze issuses during first playthrough) and I have had no problem giving up on my second playthrough (bad choices regarding rep + didn't do Archimiddes correctly) and I'm still anle to enjoy the game. I'm not giving the Devs a pass, but instead of just staring at the unwrapped game, everyone should be playing this game. The worst tht can happen is that you start over (which honestly just makes you appreciate the many different outcomes). Trust me, I gave up and did t play for at least 4 day and once I bit te bullet and backtracked far enough I the game was playable.

you can't create a new game (new playthrough) when you have the dlc error glitch or atleast i can't because after every save it is good until i shut my xbox off and than back on.

starting over does nothing to correct problems with the game ,you are just going to run into them again your second time through untill they find some way to correct this

Haven't had any significant problems with my playthroughs (originally had horrible lockup till I backtracked). The game is definitely playable if people are patient or lucky enough to manage their game with saves and inventory management).

Yes it is a fun game but I am sure all of the hard restarts are not good for the xbox, my first playthru ended abruptly thanks to the dlc bug 42 hours in. I was able to playthru and finish the game my second try but was in constant fear that I would hit the same bug. it definetely detracted from my overall experience and now that I have beat it I can finally put it down until the patch arrives

I wish i was as optimistic as you after this stupid dlc bug happend to me four times and 175+ hours of lost gameplay later the feeling is gone for me. i see no point in playing a game thats going to corrupt my progress and hinder me from completing the game the way i want to. I haven't even beat the game yet because i love doing all the side quests first in order to beat this game im going to have to rush through the campaign ( if the bug doesn't get me first) and thats just not fair to a hardcoe fallout player like myself.

I really think you guys should just start over and see what happens. Instead of just living in this forum pissed off. Not defending the state of the game, but most people CAN play the game, it's just suffering from an array of different problems (I haven't had tge same problems during my second playthrough). Just trying to spread some relief at getting to play the game at the cost of starting over several hours (in a 100+ hour game).

You have to admit its frustrating to put countless hours into a play through and not be able to finish it. Sure I could start over, but I should be able to finish a playthrough, that's what's wrong.

I really am perplexed by your attitude, Commonomic.

How can you realistically expect anybody to just shrug their shoulders, and start over without any assurance that this bug won't hit again?

I think you neglect the attraction of Bethesda games, and that is that it is an extended adventure with extensive exploration and in some cases revisiting. Unless I am satisfied that I have played the game out for all it is worth, then I really hate having to start a new game.

It's like telling someone that's invested 5 weeks in "Rome: Total war" that it's not so bad if they lost their entire Roman progress because now they can play as Greeks. Ignoring the fact that they might have wanted to conquer the land as a Roman, without having to repeat the smaller, fiddly, intro missions.

I would also like to challenge anybody here with the notion that the game can be "finished" and that if you do you're lucky and that's all good and fine. I think I speak for the majority of Beth fans when I say that the "finish" is irrelevant and that a lot of us will ensure that we do not go beyond the MQ's "point of no return" so that we can milk the world for what it is worth... WITH THE SAME CHARACTER.

If you don't play your Bethesda games like I do, then I think you're wasting the experience. It seems that not having a game that finishes at the end of the MQ (Like you could in Oblivion) means they can get away with having save games that are less stable, as they hope most gamers would just rush through the MQ. I think this contradicts the magic that caused Bethesda to have a fan-base to start with...

I think apologists such as yourself really need to view Beth RPGs as more than just a point A to point B romp, many of us want to "live" in the world, lose ourse;ves for months with the same character...

If Bethesda can't offer us stable save files, then they can't offer the experience that made them so successful in the first place.

At the risk of arguing again and again on forums I will reiterate my journey on this forum:

Came on pissed off when my recent 5 saves (8hours game time) would freeze whenever I hit battle
Waited several days lurking on this forum complaining in my most appropriate tone and saying the same thugs everyone does in some respect
Broke down and returned to a previous save (8hours back) 58 hours in
Finished the game at 71 hours and 24 achievements
Stared second run, hated my choices at 8 hours started over
Stared third run with express purpose of seeing anything I missed the first time (euclids c finder LOOKS cool when fired)
I now don't play for as long (2-8 hours) though my longest run was 13 hours before it hit the wall

All I'm saying is that for peoples personal happiness, focus on the game for the time being. Keep your opinions visible but it really does no good clogging up all of these threads with venting when many of them are topiced for itemization of bugs or specific complaints of interest. I really don't care if someone traded the game back. I trade all my games back once I've exhausted all interest (and before they lose value). This game will continue to grow over the next year opposed to games like Assassins Creed 2B which are dependent on the online community (which only survives in a rare few ips).

I am also sorry for those that had the DLC bug that is preventing anyone from starting over. Many of those that were complaining were simply refusing to start over (it goes a lot quicker when you know what to look for).

I personally have been more sickened by CODMW2 online play being hacked and modded to the point where competitive play requires cheating. Think about how much money infinity ward made and how many patches they released and people still figured out hacks for the game that imbalanced play.

What Bethesda and other game companies need to appreciate are stickig to parcel DLC purchasing which lowers cost and breaks the game into smaller chapters that can be released through success ($20 a pop opposed to $60 and you continue to fund DlC development) this makes the success of the game an ongoing development that for games like fallout, aren't having their game engines reinvented. (this is the same concept that media companies are approaching with making your own cable television package that isn't bloated with unwanted channels).

I would happily buy fallout chapters every 4-6 months if the scope of the game was drawn in to iron out bugs.

Like some have suggested, I think the game struggles to coalesce the innumerable combinations of outcomes and streaming playthroughs may make for a less buggy playthrough (I am a completionist that wants to see every outcome and use every gun (harder to do with NV, they really punish you for siding with the legion) but i always felt Fo3 and NV are games you can't appreciate on one playthrough.

We all deserve good games. Just because games aren't broken doesn't make them perfect either (mass effect 1/2 couldve been a little better, Fable is simply gay, red dead awesome game (terrible character movement mechanics). It seems that all of these games are trying to get it right (and make some money, who doesn't) but I've yet to play a perfect game.

No one disagrees that this game was far from ready (my original posts actually left blood stains on my iPhone).
But now that we're here, let's try and play the game.

Good luck to everyone.

You wanna edit that post so you quote me instead of yourself?

FIRSTLY: Everything I say is in reference to the DLC bug, everything else simply does not compare to this game killer.

The point you're missing, and I will reiterate also, is that 71 hours is an awfully short stint for a Bethesda game. I sink hundreds of hours into each character I make.

I mean, when did you get into Bethesda games? Fallout 3?

I am like a great deal of old timers here, we want games that we can sink months of our life into. Have you played Morrowind, Oblivion? Those games are not specifically designed for a 72 hour play through, and if you CAN finish Oblivion in that time or less, then you're just doing that because you're one of these "casual gamers" that they're trying to cater to in order to turn a profit, and not really a fan of the quintessential strength of Bethesda... open worlds.

The thing is that still perplexes me is you come on here suggesting that it's OK because we can start over and hopefully not have any bugs and then we can finish the MQ, yet you MUST be totally aware of the types of gamers we are. If we were happy with a game we could just play from start to finish, I doubt any of us would have bothered getting into the RPG genre to start with.

We expect more than just going from start to finish, and with the current bugs, that "more" just isn't available to us.

I won't be starting again, nor will I be starting any other Bethesda game, until this is fixed.

Furthermore, I agree that more can be taken from FO with more than one playthough, but I like to be the one deciding how long each playthrough lasts... not with some ridiculous bug deciding my gaming habits for me.

Sorry about my edits, I am using my phone to comment.

I sink an unhealthy amount of time into games and yes I started with Fallout 3 (sorry?) and I'm not trying to forgive this game. The only thing I was trying to convey was saluaging the experience.

I have a mixed relationship with RPGs (i was WoW for nearly a year, not counting the numerous console games I've played) and I would generalize by differentiating the market of "casual gamers" with PC platformers (the wealth of GECK alone is mindboggling) that console games have a smaller vision for it's players. I'm not demonizing anyone, but I am very guilty for playing too much, and I'm confident I'm not a casual gamer (see Kinect games, wii, etc) but I've alwas been a gamer. I'm 37, owned many generations of systems (com 64, intellivision, sega, atari 2600, game cube, wii ps1, ps2, he'll even a ds!) and I can definitely chime about that market (the new xbl is already a slow moving side step instead of taking advantage of the opportunity to further tweak and add more features).

What I was suggesting in regards to gameplay/playthroughs was more intended as a current strategy instead of a sentencing plea.

Just to add a note about oblivion, I tried it right after Fallout 3 and I found it unplayable from the beginning (SLOW Framerate and a little too quiet).

I do admire games like Amnesia (just got the demo for Mac) where the Dev team took a 50% pay cut to stay in delopment.

I think were on the same team but many people just want to feel vindicated at this point for all the games faults. I think it would be fair if Beth offered some kind of freebie for all of for all of our QA beta testing.

One thought I've always had about Fo3 and NV is the inconstancies are much like real life where things don't always work out, thus why it's so addictive to play through again and again (something we can never do in real life).

Well, unlike the forum members I feel your post was aimed mainly at, I am not here to complain about a broken product, moreso that I demand it to be fixed.

I can handle a restart if I am confident that the present issue is fixed. The bizarre thing to me was that you were suggesting a restart when there is no suggestion that the bug is/will be fixed and no bankable cause that we can ensure we avoid on the new playthrough.

With the above in mind, the game simply is not salvageable.

Bethesda does what no game developer does, and that is it develops/produces excellent open worlds from a detailed first person perspective. Your advice would seem to be more appropriate for a linear shooter, not for a game that constantly tempts us to wander off the beaten track.

I really do suggets you give Oblivion another go, you will level up and get tougher, the pace will pick up and you will simply adore the huge world. Seriously, dude, if you're a bigger old timer than me (I am 30), then I would assume you'd relish that such a dynamic world is there to immerse yourself in. Such a welcome change to the linear romps that most games still offer.

Oh, and might I add, Two Worlds II is out soon, looks fantastic. I have ordered a Euro version so maybe we can all do the same and enjoy it whilst Obs/Beth gets their act together.

I hate linear (rail) games that are huge but don't let you go anywhere (how many people live in these huge concourses in mass effect and halo?) I love fallouts many outcomes (some I vicariously share through my room mate).

I love new games and can be guilty of enjoying some for their Michael Bay qualities (i thought every final fantasy game was tedious but I played many of them to see awesome graphics, OCD on some completionists level, and jam up the surround sound) so I make certain allowances with certain expectations.

You'll get no argument from me about this game being broken. If you read my other posts here I'm pretty hostile towards the game media giving it such high marks for only playing 20 hours and for Beth not postponing the game. How amazing would this be if it functioned as well as FO3 (i only had some small graphical bugs and a random freeze).

I do think many Devs are guilty for production schedules with the transiency of studios folding. Online games suffer additionally from th HACK community breaking balancing (which I don't think should ever be excused when Microsoft runs such a tight xbl ship opposed to standalones like blizzard who are constantly patching their work).

One answer with other styles of games like cod has been the subscription service which would fund and counter hacking and latent glitches but the consumer cost has been projected higher than many consumers are willing to pay (other than WoW which is still crazy considering how much people will pay to play).

Somewhere between marketing, development, deadlines, and microsofts corrupt points system games lies a production that can be created in it's entirety that's ready to play and still meets the consumers price point. Original complaints about this games' redraw of the Fallout 3 engine have been overshadowed by the many bugs (which is ironic considering they already had all the tools to make it work).

Let's hope Beth considers the feedback in the next fallout game and improve the basic systems (inventory, companion commands + markers, animations)nas well as delivering a finished game.

You hit the nail right there. I think we can all remember first entering the citadel in ME1 expecting to be awed my it's size.... only to find you get to stick to a tiny portion. Classic Bioware. Halo I can handle as it's a shooter, but an RPG really should be a bit more expansive. The excuse that Bioware is aiming at a less cookie cutter approach (for example, the retain textures for buildings in Beth's Fallout universe), but the space stations and moon bases in ME1 are literally cookie cutter work, with the same several maps, not just textures, being used over and over on different parts of the galaxy.

I still loved Mass Effect though.

I have not played ME2, but I expect it to be even more immersive with more freedom and side arcs.
