"you can take a pistol and put a scope on it, you can give it a bigger clip, you can put a silencer on it,you can make it more accurate. All these things..."

so my question is can we upgrade melee or HTH weapons in the same fashion. I am really considering the pre order of the tribal pack (i'm probably the only one here) because the broad machete looks like it will be a really good melee weapon. But if i cant upgrade it like ranged weapons i think ill order a different pre order.

I would really like to get some official word on this before i blow 50 bucks away.

Well, lemme fire up my TMD in the Singularity Chamber, set it for October, and we'll see what happens.

No. The "bonus" that melee/unarmed weapons are getting is that they will have special V.A.T.S. moves that do different things. Some may do more damage than a standard attack, some may knock out a foe/paralyze them, or they may do some sort of other ability.

It's not like there's a hell of a lot one can upgrade on Melee Weapons. You hit people with them. There's not a lot of room for variance.

Go play Singularity and you'll get it. I was getting tired of making Doctor Who jokes.

Upgrading your unarmed weapons though has limitless potential! Imagine paying Doc Brown five thousand caps to lop off your hands and replace them with chainsaws, Strogg-style.

I was thinking you could upgrade the grip, sharpen the blade (maybe now a reason for all those wet stones in f3), add a toxic poison ( i think that's already in the tribal pack but don't know if it for melee only), bring it to a blacksmith something like that.

In Fallout (2) you could sharpen the tip of your spear.

Upgrade the grip...because we always did have that problem with weapons not being snug in the glove...
That's still pretty limited. But maybe I'm being short-sighted. I don't know what's going to be in the final game, so who can say for sure.

So people who use weapons get the benefit of mods in and out of vats but melee characters don't?

Well don't hate me for saying i never played fall1 or 2 but seeing how they are reintroducing somethings from fall2 maybe we can sharpen melee weapons :)

I wish i could find a dang riot shield and with my broad machete i could open up a can of modern day crusader whoop ass.

BTW Doctor Scraps your singularity reference was a good one. In the end I'm glad i killed both of those soviet bastards ;)

Well, Melee's get a bonus VATS attack, if I recall correctly. Which seems to be the best way to Melee if you ask me.

My favorite of the three. svcked having to sit through all that talking just to try for all three though.

Discrimination at its most blatant.

And isn't sharpening a weapon pretty much just repairing it? Why would one need a mod to do that? A whet stone is all that is necessary.
Although putting a serrated edge on a knife, or putting some spikes on a baseball bat are potential melee weapon mods, but there really aren't too many more options for mods.

I really don't see why you can't do something like Power Fist -> Mega Power Fist like in Fallout 2. Obviously, the options are more limited than range weapons, but still.

Even if they don't do anything like this (it's unlikely they will), I'll be pleased with knockback.

I think you're probably right here. I suppose there are things you could do to upgrade your melee weapons, but your options would be limitesd compared to ranged weapons, I'd think, so melee weapons users get special moves as their bonus instead of modifications. I'm not sure if this really makes up for the lack of those, But I expected that guns would probably get more advantages than melee weapons anyway. Aside from making guns unrealistically weak compared to melee weapons or making ammunition so scarce that you'll try not to use guns whenever possible, there isn't really that much you can do to make melee weapons as useful as guns in a game where the latter is plentiful.

You can use special attacks and put poisons and stuff on your melee weapons. I think that's what the "Bleak Venom" is all about.
