Customizable Follower?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:18 am

In Fallout 3, I hated every follower except for Charon and DogMeat. Those 2 are my, (and shared with thousands of others,) besties. I didn't like anyone else for their use of weapon, looks, and armor. (I know about reverse pickpocketing, but that loses Karma.)

In Fallout: New Vegas, we should be entitled to the option of making our own follower. I don't mean like an actual person, but more like an android person.
Basically, there could only be one guy in NV who would know how to accomplish this factor, such as first, you bring him the parts and caps he needs to create the android. It should be fairly expensive, and the guy should be hard to find. When he is in the process of creating your android follower, you will be brought the character customization menu, where in the menu you make the android how you want to look.

Once all is said and done, the android is programmed to obey you and only you. You have the ability to make the android wear what you want him to wear, and equip what weapon you want him to equip. His/Her's weapon would also break if not kept repaired frequently. The android will die just like a normal human would after too many bullets to the head. Once the android is gone, it's gone forever. You may return to the man to make him build you a brand new one. (Really, would it be wise for him to build you as many as you'd like, making it that if your current android is alive and running, he will not create you a new one, only if it is dead.) The android could use stimpacks as well, and if playing on hardcoe mode, it would need to sleep as well to rest it's battery and systems.

It's something I always wanted to be implanted into Fallout 3, thoughts?

If we make our own follower, that pretty much gives us no reason to seek out the already-made followers. They're existance would serve no purpose. Like giving us a med station and Chemical Station that renders in-game doctors absolutely pointless in FO3.

I don't think it's something that will happen in New Vegas.

Things I don't like. It being able to heal with stimpacks. I don't like that they guy can build us another one. Also I don't like the androids from FO3. If they are less human like. Character creation for it should be like making are own character, that way you can't just give it 10 of every special.

I just want the FO2 way. Give followers alot of weapons and ammo and tell them to use those weapons. If they have a weapon you hate tell them to give it to you.

The concept isn't bad, but I think it would be executed poorly. I mean, c'mon, it's an android; you can't just collect bits of junk throughout the desert and then use them to create a synthetic person -- that doesn't really make any sense to me, unless the doctor already has the items at hand, but would he really have enough to keep making one everytime your android dies?

It would make all other followers pointless, too.

Sorry, but I just think it's silly.

Ummmm. You do realize you could simply talk to you companions to give them weapons and armour.

Cool idea. We would even be able to adjust or duplicate our character in the game. I don't see why this wouldn't work, considering (spoiler for FO3) ............. Spoiler alert: Harkness from Fallout 3.

Entitled? Where's that notion come from?
We all choose to buy the game as designed (bugs & all; actually); but I don't see how that entitles us to anything but the option to play the game.
Spoiler
Its a funny thing, but the other day I heard a drug trial commercial that began with the standard "If you are over the age of X and have symptom 1, 2 or 3... You are"; and here's the change...instead of saying "You are qualified to participate", it said "You are entitled" !?? They've changed their language to reflect/ and play up to the increasing (and all to common) entitlement complex that more and more people are starting to exhibit. This is a bad harbinger ~really bad if it starts to extend to our games [IMO].

No.

NPC's are characters in the true sense of the word; don't like them? leave 'em.
I honestly believe that the affect of having player engineered McNPC's in the game would be mostly detrimental.
