Hi MACGRUBER7693,

As far as I am aware there will be no dialog system, but instead it is going to be more similar to Doom 3 and Half life 2, where you are just listening to what the NPCs have to say.
Bear in mind that this is not RPG game! It is first and foremost FPS which also includes both some racing and role-playing elements.

As for the plot, I think Id software mentioned something about how your choices might impact the story line and your further progress in the game.
In any case I doubt that it will be as sophisticated as a RPG game.

I was also dissapointed when I learned that you wouldn't really have any say in the game and that I would be basically playing as a "voiceless man", that is to say a man that has no say...and I am not talking about not being able to hear my characters voice. I loved Fallout 3 and am currently playing Fallout new vegas however I have taken a break from the game until a patch is released that makes the game more "playable" and stable on Win 7 x64. I just finished playing Dragon age 2 for a few hours and then I went to IGN.com to get my latest news from PAX East in hopes of finding more info on RAGE and I did find some more info in this article: http://pc.ign.com/articles/115/1155241p1.html Which is where I learned that this was gonna be more of a Half-Life type experience instead of a Fallout 3 type one. Don't get me wrong I loved Half-Life 2 but I loved Fallout 3 even more and I guess I have become so used to being able to make decisions that impact the story in video games that it has become a standard for me and rarely do I become interested in games that don't let me customize my character or let me make decisions that impact the the outcome of the story in some way. I will will still try this game out but as for buying it...I am not so sure about that anymore. This was my most anticipated game of the year and ever since I learned about this, that is no longer the case. But still I am looking forward for this game to come out because I am curious about it and it is the first id game since Doom 3. :-) But if it is true that we will still be able to influence the plot with some of our decisions in someway then I guess that is good news since that would definetly add replayability.

Well, this is an FPS, not an RPG... and I think the silent protagonist approach works in more action oriented games (although I love RPGs too). Far Cry 2 was a great open-world FPS with a silent protagonist (only the respawning guards were slightly annoying), and Half-Life 1/2, Bio/System Shock, Doom 3 had silent protagonists too, though they were more linear affairs (and you still had some story choices in Bioshock). It never bothered me during these games that the main character doesn't talk, in many ways it's more immersive.

The reason I'm excited for Rage is b/c it's finally another shooter that does not use the extremely narrow, extremely linear CoD formula, where you can do everything only as the devs intented, can only move at the pace the devs intended, and they constantly push you forward. Oh, and don't get me started on the "infinite enemies till you move to the next checkpoint when they magically disappear" [censored]... (If you are going to do a linear shooter copy HL not CoD...). I want some freedom, and Rage gives me that.

I really enjoyed shooters like Stalker, Crysis, Far Cry 2 recently, where you can explore the environment and approach enemies as you'd like, and Rage looks like a fantastic shooter in that vein. If you are essentially looking for a CRPG, Rage was never going to be a game for you (play The Witcher 2 and Skyrim though).

I totally agree with you about the linear thing you we're talking about in games like CoD and I will definetly be playing Skyrim. Also I wasn't trying to say that RAGE was going to be a bad game just because it doesn't have what I would of liked for it to have it's just that I had certain expectations and like MACGRUBER7693 and the reviewer on IGN I was a little dissapointed, that is all. Doesn't mean I won't play the game though.

At least you know about it now, so when you will play the game, you won't expect it to be something that it isn't. With Rage and Skyrim, this fall is definitely looking good for open-world games.
