I've never been much of a shooter fan and none have ever really appealed to me enough to buy them. I've never played a shooter before, only demos, and I've read some pretty impressive things about this game. I would like some confirmation/denial of these things and, although I will not pre-order the game, I would like to know if you think RAGE is worth keeping an eye on for a person such as myself. I've always enjoyed RPGs of any kind, but specifically, I like open world RPGs. I assume the closest game to RAGE that I've played is Fallout 3 and I love Fallout 3. I've read that RAGE is an open world shooter with some minor RPG elements that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. I've also read that it runs at 60 fps on consoles while boasting very impressive graphics. That sounds a bit unusual and the sheer technical genius that must have went into the software powering the game is enough to make me interested in the game... and that's exactly what it's done. In addition, I read that six years was spent making this game. I don't know what that may mean for the amount of content this game will have, but I'd like to know how much content this game has in single-player mode. Does Id typically focus on single-player experiences? That's something else I enjoy, so the presence of a very large single-player experience is crucial to my purchasing of any game. If this is not the case with RAGE, it is not for me, but I don't know if it is or isn't the case.
In short, my main questions are:
1. Is this game truly open world? Does it allow free-roaming exploration and provide a unique, varied gameworld of decent size? Is it a seamless gameworld?
2. How much single-player content will the game feature?
3. Are these technical claims true? Does the game really look as good as I've been led to believe? If those two things are true, how did they possibly achieve that with the current console generation?
4. Would this game be supported on the PS3 just as well as on the 360 and PC, based on Id's past history/comments? I don't want a lackluster port.
5. Would this be a game worth closely watching as a candidate for an introduction into first-person shooters, assuming I like post-apocalyptic settings, open worlds, and single-player experiences?
