[Team Member] Skilled Generalist Seeking Large Team

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:47 am

Greetings all FONV hackers, modders and general fiddlers!

I'm posting in hopes of finding a group of peers interested in fairly large scale modification of the current game.

I am a generalist as stated, but I am fairly high skilled at nearly any aspect of making a modern 3d game.

I'm no specialist! My code isn't the most crazy, my high detail models not very CGtalk worthy, my texturing skill fairly unrefined and lazy..... every aspect of making a game I am versed in, but none to a specialist standard.

I am a professional programmer by trade working on fairly simplistic proprietary systems, this has become bread and butter for me and my real challenge is when I try and understand the workings of a modern video game.

I have got pretty versed with the G.E.C.K, some fairly basic elements are tbh still quite confusing to me, but I pretty much understand what's going on in within this intellectual mountain of work.

So there's a brief, hopefully fairly tantalising intro, now to why am I making this post.

The skill set I have I think it's fairly feasible for me to make a complete "egotistical" companion mod based around myself and a set of goofy missions I could see a player getting involved in...

If I commit to this it will no doubt entail a fair amount of work.

Alternatively I've been considering devoting my freetime to some sort of broader scale modification based around more custom content, new cells, even possibly squeezing in new complex towns (possibly through subterranean access if necessary) to provide a much larger expansion on the already great NV wasteland expanse.

This is clearly more work than a companion mod, more than I can achieve myself.

So if I can find a committed set of like minded individuals maybe we can produce something fairly engaging together?

Sound good? Then let's talk....

If you're sincerely committed and can honestly contribute to making something like this a reality please get in touch, I am seriously interested in working with a team on something decent, I was quite let down with the amount of quest mods in FO3, I think we've got a great basis to make some really fun additions to this wasteland, just takes a lot of serious work from some committed people....

A team of unpaid people is hard to keep together... especially strangers. Especially with only a vague outline.

I'd suggest you do all the parts you can, and whatever is left you can't do, seek help with that... then people can see it's not going to be a wasted project to sink their time into, but a nearly-finished mod that needs some touches.

Also, if you're a professional programmer, you should be able to pick up scripting. It's quirky, but the fundamentals are there.

Best bet might be Martigan. Maker of MMM(mart's mutant madness) for fallout 3 (or marts monster madness for oblivion).

Last I heard he was working with or putting together a team. Basically if MMM for NV is anything like previous versions for the other games, it will add spawn points/creatures/items/etc. Also, perhaps creating of new cells to showcase the new content(For example stuff added into Oblivion, showcasing bats and furs, if memory serves.).

I know where you're coming from, it's just I think I need to make a clear descision from the outset to make a companion mod myself, or work with a group on something involving more custom content If I'm to actually finish something.

I was hoping there was something I could join mostly, I guess I will probably work on a basic first version of a companion mod in my spare time and see how things develop with the community till then.
Working out the vague outline part is fairly easy, but I agree keeping people together is not.

This is pretty manageable though, nothing as grand as a TLC or anything, just enough help to make say a new town.

P.S I have played with the quirky scripting system, it's not that bad what you can do, the SE also makes quite a lot possible, I can probably do what I need in that respect, now if I could just figure out the editor. ;)
