Main Character Game Now Unplayable

Post » Sat Apr 09, 2011 5:41 am

I am beyond annoyed. My main game is now unplayable. I can go for 5 minutes, then it locks up. Happened when my save file reached 11 MB. I play on the PS3. Maybe it is because of the quest (getting supplies for Bittersprings), but I doubt it. In FO3 freeze started at the 5000 KB mark, this game it was 7000 KB. After I did some option suggestions, things went well until now. Taking a break from him and going to play the cannibal for a while and see if the same thing happens. :brokencomputer:

There is no excuse for this. If the game isn't ready, do not market it. I'd rather wait a few more months and have a game that works.

One thing,
I've had a glitch before on pc that it may be, I just need to know if.

A. You have human / humanoid companions.
B. Have given them ammo and weapons to store, and.
C. Have just entered combat when it freezes, or they could have tried to enter it.

If so, clean up their inventory, dump out as many weapons / ammo as possible then try to see if it happens again.

I have Cass and ED-E as companions. I've given Cass a hunting shotgun fully modded and slugs for ammo, for back up I gave her a 12.7mm SMG, and a hatchet. ED-E is carrying the Pulse gun for me. As I pick up loot I spread the weight around. No combat, just walking around Bittersprings to find the last supply cave (east side of Bittersprings heading toward the ranger camp). I'm not sure, but I think the first time it froze up we were about to enter combat. ED fired at a scorpion and when I activated VATS it froze. That may have been the other game. I will do as you say and see what happens. I hope that is the problem. However, she was loaded out like that before I hit 11 MB.

I'm pretty sure companions can't use modded weapons, they'll hold onto them, sure, but I don't think they actually use them.

11 MB is a large file size, and if I remember that's when FO3 would begin freezing up really bad. It may be you've just done a lot in the game(side quests, locations explored, etc.) and now it's trying to keep pace with all you've done.

Cass does use the modded hunting shotgun. She prefers the 12.5 smg. Funny thing is she will use a non modded hunting shotgun if I put one into her inventory over the modded one.

I have explored 90+% of the map and have forgotten how many side quests. Up to House Always Wins V for main quest. My first play through I try to do everything.

Certain mods do not "work" when companions use the weapon, but some of them do work.

Silencer and scopes do not work on companions.
Bigger magazine size and fire rate increase mods do work on companions.
Reduction of spread mods - really not sure. I don't think they work tho, because the weapon doesn't show those mods graphically on the gun anymore, when companions use them.

And yes, CTD's seemed to increase the longer I played/more/bigger saves I had etc. On the PC at least. Hasn't been an issue for me since patch 1.1 tho. Wish I could help but no clue what to do on a console.

I don't think there is anything you can do. I always just started a new game, it's unfortunate but if you can't play for longer than half an hour without a crash then there's not really any other option...

Well I got it working again. I took everything off my companions, fast travelled to Novac (in case it had anything to do with Bittersprings), and then gave most things back to companions. I went back to Bittersprings and finished the climb every mountain quest as well as the khan sniper. I also made a new save and deleted the other saves. So far so good.

The problem is with the Bitter Springs area. After ten hours of playing and no issues, I went back with Boone to do his quest. About 45 minutes there, started having issues again. Was able to complete his quest, but it was tough. I will not go back there.

I can't tell for sure (because I never go complain when a game is delayed) but they would've gotten far fewer complaints and ban blood if they just delayed it.
My main character was getting the same way so I rushed through to the ending. Froze up on me a few times in that last battle: including a neverending load screen just before the final slide show.
I just shouldn't bother with console releases of PC games especially any games that have anything to do with these guys.
