An Adventurer's skills...

Post » Fri Apr 22, 2011 9:03 am

I was thinking of creating an Adventurer type character, who's RP is basically to do quests, explore dungeons and defeat evil.

Was thinking of these as the skills:

Security
Blade
Marksman
Armourer
Light Armour/Heavy Armour
Acrobatics
Athletics/Restoration

There's 2 points i am not sure of.

  • Having Blade/Marksman (Would I really use both?)
  • Athletics or Resto (Which one would suit me better?)

The thing about the Blade/Marksman is that I don't know if i'd use both, because most things die within one hit. I might be thinking about using the bow on long range creatures and pulling out the sword for nearby ones - And of course I don't have sneak, would anyone advise me on that?

Lucky you i made the same last night :)

Birthsign: its entirley up to you but i chose The Warrior, my real life birthsign is The Steed.

Attributes: i chose strength endurence, remember this is whether you want to be melee or ranged, i think melee is more original for an explorer adventurer style class.

Skills: Blade/Blunt/Marksman
Athletics
Light/Heavy Armour
Armourer
Speechcraft
Mercentile
Block

hmm... good ideas - might take the birthsign of the Warrior

But i think i'll be a light armoured adventure, quick on their feet - no need for a shield. Speechcraft and Mercentile is a might-be.

Before I give any advice I'd need to know if you are using any mods that change the leveling system (only on PC).

Assuming you're playing on one of the consoles I'd recommend making a class of 3-4 skills that you'll use and 3-4 skills that you won't use at all (or at least not much). This is because of the level scaling enemies which grow stronger when you level up. Essentially the trick to having a strong character is to have higher skills than your level suggests. To put a little differently, if you want a strong character you need to focus on just a few major skills.

Consult my guide in my signature if you havent already.

Anyway:

Id take blade over Marksmen because you dont have sneak. Carry the bow and arrow though and since it isnt boosted it actually wont kill with one shot most the time.

Athletics over Restoration easily because you can get your health back just by waiting an hour.

Oh my, that actually makes sense.. I never though of that, but then again am pretty new with Oblivion.. So far I thought when making a char I should pick the 7 skills I need the most, resulting in fast leveling.. Now I understand that I did it wrong.. oh well, time to reroll then :)

Anyway thanks for enlightening me, and sorry for going a bit off topic..

Edit: (I didnt noticed that we are bumping 10 days old thread..) =)

athletics
blade
light/heavy armor
marksman
mercantile
speechraft
illusion/alchemy/restoration/block

mercantile and speechraft are slow to increase which is good. armorer is a good misc skill to train every level

You should take de Blade skill, has ZakariusSvedlin said, you don't have Sneak so you wouldn't kill anyone with just a arrow.
