GECK for New Vegas?

Post » Wed Apr 27, 2011 8:23 am

Will Fallout New Vegas also feature the GECK construction set? Perhaps its own construction set?

What makes Bethesda games great (aside from themselves) are the great modding communities for them, and I would hate to see new Vegas miss out on that fun.

I think it was confirmed that Fallout: New Vegas will have a GECK since the Obsidian devs reassured us that Steam doesn't cut down on mod support

Edit: Clarification

There will be a Geck on the PC version only. I think it has been confirmed already.

Maybe, I have seen these come out before the game comes out and after the game comes out and with the game on the disk. However if it comes out after, it is usually like a week after, not months after.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they say it would be included on the game disk?

there should be a GECK for xbox 360 and PS3 it should be one of those things that youcan download on the comp and download it on the xbox that works with the link you can establish between the two (im not sure for PS3 but for xbox you go topictures or music section and where it says PC that will get you started) and allows you to transfer the mod file from comp to xbox and vice versa

Microsoft/Sony will not allow a GECK on the consoles, and they do not have the hardware/software to support the mods or the GECK. In short, there will not be a GECK on the consoles, atleast in this generation of consoles.

Not like you can make high quality mods on Console anyway. That's sort of a given. Mods are always gonna be the PC domain until they can make a controller and console friendly interface. I don't see that happening for a while.
Console construction sets have always been limiting when they are offered.

And the proper hardware AND the big one: Getting the companies to allow mods on their systems

Anticipation of the NV GECK is 50% of what I'm looking forward to in New Vegas (the other 50% is the game itself).

Actually it's 100% a greed issue. See, they don't make money on the consoles themselves. They make money via kickbacks on the games. A percentage of each game sale = cha-ching for the console maker. If they start allowing mods, they're not going to be selling any new games. Thus they stand to lose a fortune. Soooooo, no mods.

True, however mods do cause some amount instability with the game. If people just went mad installing mods and didnt know the consequences it could cause game stability issues. Meaning people would expect to have Sony/Microsoft fix their consoles. Although that is more on the user then the company, but still it would be just more trouble for Sony/Microsoft. (And like I said, its also a hardware issue, a well modded game on the PC can take well over 1.4GB of RAM. Something that the consoles do not enjoy the luxury of having)

Please lets Not turn this into a GECK-for-consoles thread or it will get locked. We have had this discussion 100 times, and Bethesda/Obsidian have been very clear on the fact that it will not be/cannot be put onto the consoles. It has Nothing to do with greed and everything to do with Legal blocks (from the console makers) and Technical limitations (as the GECK requires Alot of other resources and tools, it takes many tools in addition to the GECK to do modding). I could go on and on with this but have no desire to see the thread closed. The official word is that the GECK will not be on the consoles, and we should leave it at that.

Different thing. The thread is about the editor used to make mods on the PC version.
