Bug Free Game

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 8:57 am

Ok, so I had previously decided I would not play this game until a new, working patch was released for this game. And since I've continued to wait patiently, reading the forums everyday for the last week and a half, I can say I don't want to wait any longer.

I'd appreciate it if this thread didn't turn into one big discussion about how Bethesda and Obsidian should fix it, etc. etc. etc., I've read it all before. I'd simply like to create a small (or large, probably large) list of somewhat avoidable bugs in order to start a bug free game and attempt to have some fun. Random bug encounters included. I think if the forum community does this, the game may be enjoyed by some.

Just list off any of the game-breaking and annoying bugs you may have come across, including where the DLC glitches may have sprung from, what you were doing, which companions bugged, specific areas that blank screened or reset your box. Pretty much another list of bugs, minus the silly discussion. Thanks! Cheers!

I would say,
Avoid the Strip.
Avoid Vault 3
Avoid the Fly me to the moon quest
Avoid doing the Melissa mission until Papa Khan is finished.

Just off the top of my head but i'm sure people will add more.

You might be ok fast travelling between Freeside and Freeside cemetary without any problems.

That's pretty bleak dude.

@Gallows: If you're playing on the 360, do the following:

1. Install to the Hard Drive (I cannot stress this enough!)
2. Don't use the preorder DLC if you have it
3. Clear your cache betwen sessions
4. For every 3-4 hours of play, restart your console

Those steps seem to work between myself and six of my friends, all of whom play on the XBox.

EDIT: I should add that I've seen it freeze two or three times total and few graphical glitches. The Strip, the Vaults, Come Fly With Me quest, etc. all seem to work just dandy.

I've heard you can simply press a few buttons to clear the cache while your xbox is starting up, amirite? RB, LB, X is it?

And, do you have the newest patch downloaded?

I'm thinking of clearing my cache and deleting my DLC to try to avoid glitches, will it ruin my current saves?

Yeah, I think that's right. I typically just use the dashboard option myself. And yep, latest patch is downloaded (darn, now I can't set people on fire for free!)

It's likely that will as the DLC is already loaded into the save file. You delete it now, you're GUARANTEED to see a problem. If you keep going, don't mod the DLC weapon! The Weathered 10mm pistol has all kinds of problems when modded.

A question about the DLC problems, cause i have the mercenary pack. Did deleting the DLC from hardrives actually help prevent this bug? Because i'd like to continue my main file... and if i did start a new one i'd prefer to play it without the mercanary pack just to try and avoid it. But if i did delete the mercenary pack when a fix is actually released then i would probably get the proper "DLC missing" for my main file, since the preorder code was a one use code, and i so far have seen no way to re-download the pack after using the code once. So i wouldn't want to risk deleting the pack if it means i can't play my main file when this bug is fixed.. does anyone know if deleting the DLC actually helps prevent it, or if there's a way to re-download it later?

From what has been posted on these forums, people who never even had any DLC to begin with still got that bug. So having the DLC or not, doesn't seem "save" you from it.

I installed mine to Hdd, regularly clear my cache,I do not have the pre order dlc, and I have not downloaded the 1st patch.

With that said, I have no problems with quests, returning to the strip, come fly away with me or anything else really for that matter.I had an issue with my game crashing consecutively in mojave outpost, but that problem hasn't popped up again.

I seriously think most issues that plague gamers is from the preorder dlc and the 1st patch, being that I have logged over 35 hours with only some minor glitches present.

My advice if you want to play: get rid of the patch, delete preorder dlc, install game to hdd and clear cache by using soft reset every play.

I'll give that a go and see if the bug pops up, it's a bit annoying that i have to go over 26 hours of gameplay again.. since it kinda takes away the uniqueness and fun of it. So i'm kind of glad that i haven't played it for weeks since this bug popped up

Has anybody else gotten the "Can't hack a terminal error"? I've only frozen once and haven't notice too many other things (mainly because I've only put a few hours in) but when I try to get on a terminal the screen blurs and typing plays, but nothing else happens. I just have to exit the screen and can't do anything.

That is in my opinion the best way to approach this game. It should have a warning label on the box that says do not connect to live and regularly clear your cache lol!

The words "unfit for sell" spring to mind....

one that I think was left out was save regularly in different slots.

If you have one save to a memory unit or usb , basically save twice , once on the harddrive second external device.

That way if you have an issue of freezing somewhere and you try again and you freeze again. deleted one on hard drive and try the one on external source, Make sure you restart xbox and game before using external device.

I got the DLC bug in Vault 34 while attemp[ting "Hard Luck Blues" but that was before the patch. idk what, if anything, the patch fixed so I would say be cautious and save frequently if attempting that quest

all i did was clear my cache and start a new game without the patch and ive had no problems at all been able to finish quests without problems and ive now made it further than i was before which is great and i havent came across the DLC error in my opinion i think it came from the patch, i say this because i started a new game with the patch and within a few hours i got the DLC error

People who are'nt even connected to the internet are getting this problem. So it must already be in the coding somewhere.
