Feedback:
Story: The story was fun, exciting, and very pleasing. I found it to be a lot better than Fallout 3's storyline because it got more indepth and wasn't about "finding your missed and idolized father". Plus the fact you can go so many seperate paths in siding with someone, that makes it all the better and more replayable than Fallout 3 was.
Story Pros:
Allows multiple paths including the ability to go your own way.
Lots of ways to finish the story itself.
Story Cons:
The game ends after the final battle, and thus concludes your ability to continue playing. (Just like Fallout 3...)
Some quests seemed minimalistic, as if the game is showing it was semi-rushed.
Environment: It was cool seeing the Mojave wasteland again, and I love the details put into certain parts of it. One namely is the Tumbleweed, gotta have tumbleweed in those parts. The transition from the western style desert to the more 50's style city of new vegas created a diverse exchange of atmospheres. In the desert you have creatures, ghouls, raiders, etc then into the city it is more gang-involved.
Environment Pros:
The Mojave desert is back!
Very western style trends into very urban style.
Environment Cons:
Places that you can explore lack enough good treasures, you rarely find loot in warehouses that are valueble, etc.
Vegas isn't as big as I imagined it to be.
Marked places on the map have little to see in them. (There was a shack that was marked on my map that had no one inside of it, and no goods to loot!)
The Great Khans camp was minimalistic, you cannot enter every tent, etc and the only building you can enter has nothing worth stealing.
Gameplay: Much more challenging. I love it! In Fallout 3 you have little challenge in many cases of combat or missions in that game.. In New Vegas everything is much harder to accomplish. The Companion wheel menu helps things out a lot, and the companions don't do stupid things that usually get them easily killed. The implementation of Ironsights is one of my favorite addons. Also, I am real satisfied with guns in Fallout: New Vegas because usually 75% of the time a headshot will instantly kill your target, and if not instantly kill it definately damages them by a huge factor, better to say they are near death. In Fallout 3 headshots didn't do instant kills. The Reappearance of VATS is a nice addon, because as of now there is low FPS drops in combat that involves more than 2 Npc's for my rig, so VATS makes things easier when you experience low FPS.
I also love the improvement over Fallout 3 that there is much more variety of items. Guns now have multiple types of ammo that all do there own seperate specialties, there are a LOT of guns. Also, the implementation of Gun mods really makes weaponry a lot better. Example: You have a sniper rifle that weighs a little too much, so you get a carbon fiber mod that rebuilds the sniper rifle in a lighter carbon fiber frame; or, perhaps a gun mod that decreases shotgun spread? Its very cool. I love the whole gambling ordeal, it is just another reason to lose caps in this game! One thing I must mention is that the stuttering problem still exsists, and has not been fixed.
Gameplay Pros:
Challenging game, even without hardcoe mode.
Lots of items, lots of firepower, lots of ways to solve problems.
Better Companion control in Fallout New Vegas compared to Fallout 3.
Gambling!
The M1 Garand is back!! (I love this gun.)
Gameplay Cons:
No cars? (I miss the Fallout 2 car..)
Micro Stuttering/Stuttering still a problem. (No guys, iFPSclamp = 60 doesn't fix it. this stuttering occurs when you look certain directions and, etc.)
Low FPS drop occurs in battle, even with a good gaming rig! (See my system specifications at the bottom.)
Here is what I think can be improved on:
1. Either A. Release a future patch that removes conclusive endgame, or B. Make a DLC like Fallout 3's Broken Steel that allows unlimited play after the main quest ends.
2. Patch up the holes that are missing. I find a lot of places that lack anything worth looting, and some places are actually empty. The Warehouse for example south of camp Mccarran, has Nothing special in it and is almost empty. (Sure, people come and scavenge stuff but you have to allow the player to find something.)
3. Add more places to explore.
4. New Vegas needs some work done on it, the strip could be more populated and full of characters that have quests, as opposed to the common "gamblers" that are about.
5. In future DLC, add the car from Fallout 2!! IT would be nice to say "Oh crap, I am carrying too much valueble stuff I want to sell, but at least I can store stuff in my car's trunk!"
6. Allow players to actually join the factions, instead of just serving them as a "civilian".
7. Make the damage of a shotgun a little more powerful, as they seem to be very wimpy.
8. Fix the Low FPS drop that occurs when looking in the direction of 3 or more NPCS!
9. Fix the Stuttering that causes the game to freeze very shortly and makes the game almost unplayable without a driver rollback...
10. In future DLC, make a entire land to explore that can use a car if not in the Mojave land.
11. Fix the spontaneous crash issues.
12. Fix the bugs!
Further comments:
I hope the DLC that comes out for New Vegas is good, and that it adds more things to do + No conclusive endgame.
System Specifications:
Intel Core i7 920 2.7 Ghz (8 Processors 64-bit)
EVGA Geforce GTX 260 Core 216
6 Gb 3 way RAM
Windows Vista 64 bit
Integrated 7.1 Sound card.
500 Gb hard drive (With 150 GB remaining space.)
Nvidia driver 186.18 (Most stable with New vegas, removes stuttering, but the low FPS remains when there are a lot of npc's.)
The game runs maxed out, will all settings max. Same performance as Fallout 3 with the exception of the FPS drops during 3+ npc encounters.
