ok this is the 3rd time it has happen to me with steam and the fallout games.
when the NPCs start talking in the dialog its like there is no sound but everything else sounds fine.
this has happen to my with Fallout 3 - Fallout 3 GOTY - and now New Vegas.
its not really a big problem but i would like to know how to fix it.

is anyone else having the same problem cuz i really dont want to goto the store and buy a fresh copy

I had this exact issue today and it drove me nuts. I run a 5.1 setup when I play on my TV and a stereo setup when I play on my desktop monitor. Usually games have a setting within the Audio sections to toggle between 5.1 and stereo but not this one.

So I went into my "Realtek HD Audio Manager" and sure enough the speaker config was set to 5.1 (probably from my last Dragon Age session). I switched it to stereo, loaded up New Vegas, and NPC's talk!
