My Load Order

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 4:59 pm

Hello everyone. This is my first post, but have been a long time reader. I just wanted some insight on my load order of mods I have installed. I have been playing since release, with very few problems. I started throwing a few mods in, and as we all know there like potato chips.....you can't have just one! Anyway I tested these mods on by one as I installed them and didn't have any problems Now any time I try to go up toward Vegas I CTD after a save and load. For example I'm up by camp mccarren and save, exit game, start game up load save. After it loads if I try to enter an interior area that's when it crashes. Mind you this can be anywhere north such as gun runners, south Vegas ruins, el ray motel, camp mccarren...you get the point. I'm not 100% great with load orders or seeing if mod conflict. I checked over at the nexus and there are no "known" bugs or conflicts with the mods I have installed. Basically I wanted to see if anyone else had any sort of problems or if someone could see an obvious problem with my load order and or installed mods. Thanks in advance.

all I can do is give you a general advice on sorting load orders.

use this utility: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35999

the modlist is still quite small compared to its oblivion and fo3 counterpart, but this will still sort some of the most popular mods. then, use recognized mods as a template to sort the not recognized ones manually. read the doc file to get an idea on how to do that (creating a userlist file etc.).

[X] BetterGamePerformanceV3.esp

Problem found!

I have a copy of it archived, but fair warning: It hosed my game around Novac and removing it corrupted all my saves.

This was probably the main reason it was taken down. It affected all kinds of cells and, upon removing it, corrupted save games like no other.

Besides that, the performance gain is very questionable and doesn't really have any concrete evidence in support of this mod. In most cases, removing unused resources (what this mod did) does not really increase performance any. The game doesn't load the resource into the world anyway, therefore no system resources are used to compile those resources that are removed. At the most, it might decrease loading times by a quarter of a second or something.

I really only see a mod like this helping with systems running this game on the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM with dated hardware. If you have a system with any form of mainstream to high end hardware created in the last 3-4 years in it (CPU, Video Card, etc), you should be able to run New Vegas just fine without any issues whatsoever. After all, the game is also built to run just fine on 5 year old hardware without a hitch (Xbox 360).

Most vet modders could have told you the base premise of this mod was a bad idea, as per experience with Unofficial Oblivion Patch's deletion woes way back when.

Most basic modders too. Even I knew that.

Granted you could have other problems. But if BOSS doesn't solve it for you, you can learn to use FNVEdit and Wyre Flash, which with even pretty basic knowledge can help you sort load order issues fairly easily.

Thanks for the help. I rearranged the order, thanks to BOSS, and got rid of the performance mod. I don't really know why I added it anyway, my computer runs NV good anyway.
