I used Tarrant's http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1141563-relz-the-strip-open-modders-resource-version/ Modder's Resource, so big thanks to him not just for making that but for peaking my interest in modding Fallout with it. I made as few changes as possible to get it in a workable state. I have a lot of stuff in a personal version that kinda, sorta, maybe works sometimes, but my brother and a few of his friends wanted to get a playable version off of me asap so I pulled all that stuff out and threw this up on Nexus.
So far this is what I've done:
- Modified and tacked the gate scripts onto cubic activators
- This moves the NPCs around as you move through the Strip to populate the areas as they (almost) normally would be. - Enabled a few quest NPCs like Billy Knight
- This is in an effort to make sure it is in fact usable, even if my triggered scripts don't work correctly for some reason. - Moved a few things that didn't look quite correct
- Most notably the markers the NPCs used to fade in and out where the gates used to be.
They should move far enough past those old boundaries to not constantly appear and disappear right in front of you. - That's pretty much it...
Obviously I don't consider this finished in any way. These are a few things I am working on off the top of my head:
- Adding Securitrons
- At the moment there are like 6 Securitrons around the Lucky 38 and none anywhere else, with the exception of a few that appear for scripted scenes - Adding persistent NPCs in the middle area of the Strip
- I want to add a dozen or so gamblers and travelers to the area between the Tops and the Ultra-Luxe that won't be moved by the triggers so that as you travel you won't see NPCs fade in and out as they are moved around to create an illusion that the areas are populated - Changing NPC paths
- So they don't disappear in the middle of the road, and instead move to and from casinos and the other buildings in the area
This is the first time I have tried to use the GECK so progress has been slow and at times painful, but I'm determined to get a smooth operating Strip that feels very populated as I move through it. When I get the hang of this thing I might try to add some more scenes into the area and may even move things around a little to make back alleys with extra quests and/or vendors. That's far in the future and over the horizon right now though. I'll settle with getting the Securitrons to work the way I want them to for now.
Any feedback is much appreciated, and criticisms are welcomed as are simple complaints about broken bits and pieces.
