[REQ]Tribal Race

Post » Sat May 14, 2011 12:46 am

I'm looking for a tribal race, with all the tribal stuff already in New Vegas...okay, throwing spears and that's pretty much it, but I feel tribals should've been greatly expanded on in New Vegas, all we get are the Great Khans and that's pretty much it.
Obviously we can't use the assets from Point Lookout, though if anyone knows of Tribal textures made for Breeze or Robert's body that'd work well and a new race could be made using those.

If not, then I might as well ask, anyone up for bringing tribals to new vegas as a playable race?

Seconded, in fact the Great Khans are probably my least favourite faction simply because I can't take them seriously as tribals with that stupid armour they wear. Caesar at least justifies why he emulates the old roman empire. But the Khans are oblivious to their similarities to the Mongols until you complete one of their quests. It's just a little silly to me.

The Jackals and Vipers are supposed to be tribes as well, and not "gangs", they just don't dress like tribals in previous FOs. I'm modding a tribe for my game, replacing the Jackals with something more "Van Burenny", but even for that, their armors are more a combination of raider armor, wasteland clothing/armor, and Oblivion armor (shush! :) )

Why the hell is the tribal armor from point lookout not in this game? It looks real cool.
And then there's Bethesda's approach on importing things from different games. :banghead:

Not putting that Tribal armor in was a bit of a misfire if you ask me, though who knows, maybe a tribal focused DLC will come out at some point. Tribals would work much better in New Vegas than they did in Fallout 3 anyway, surely there are at least a few tribes left that Caesar hasn't conquered.

Agreed.

I mean, in FO3 you were from a vault. That was your backstory, period. In New Vegas though, you could be anyone. Who's to say a tribal didn't somehow land a courier job for some reason, makes about as much sense as anyone else taking the job and I've certainly heard weirder backstories.

Also a shame that ghouls weren't playable in vanilla this time around, that would've worked pretty well too.

Yes but ghouls would have to have something balance out the immunity to radiation.

Not really, as long as the player is made aware that it would be terribly overpowered, they have a choice. Lore consistency is a fairly big issue, and I'm almost enitrely certain this is exactly why they were left out. Thing is, it doesn't matter if they're not balanced, as long as the player is aware of it they can make a choice themselves.

Then again, it would be easy to balance really. True, ghouls have slight regeneration and rad healing, but they look like corpses, most people hate them and they're more prone to crippled limbs and the like. Considering just how important speech and other dialogue checks are in New Vegas, having people dislike you and having penatlties to skills like that would be a fairly big hindrance.

There's a real dearth of tribal stuff out there. I don't want to make a high tech covert ops guy :(

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37953 double bladed sword thing is cooli-o for a tribal. Improved throwing is useful too. Just need some appropriate armour. I'm waiting to see if FCE makes survival an actually useful thing to have as well.

Wouldn't it be simple enough to give them that perk that allows radiation to heal slowly?

Ghouls should get like a -2 to agility and strength.

Oh yeah, and charisma of course.

tumbajamba made a tribal looking outfit for Fallout 3 in his scavenger armors mod. I removed the body in nifskope so that this was just an accessory:

All the tribal gear is a moot point without the underlying race.

Anyone out there up to making a native american-ish Tribal race? I'm not much of a facemaker...

Hmm...a Breeze compatible version of that might just be the coolest thing ever.

It's made as an accessory. So there is no need for a conversion for Breezes body. There only could be a clipping problem with the lower body area. It depends which base body you are using.

Ah, as in it's just set to a different slot, such as the neck slot or waist slot then? Cause I could do that fairly easily myself and it would look awesome.

probable bonuses would be immunity to radiation/healing by it obviously, friendlier to super mutants/nightkin and feral ghouls, as well as normal ghouls. however, racism would be frequent, and some quests would be unavailable. I don't think the NCR would have any problems with ghouls, but the Legion would definitely crucify you on site. i think most ghoul disadvantages would be limits to perks and off-limits quests.

The Legion tolerates mutants and ghouls, they do not outright hate them.

Why don't you just use the FO3 tribal outfit in FNV? You can give it to, say, the Jackals...

Because porting assets from FO3 to New Vegas is against the EULA, and that's not something I'm going to do. Besides, I've uninstalled FO3 over a year ago and I've got no plans to re-install it anytime soon.
