Ammo Boxes : Fallout: New Vegas

I have 10 5.56 mm ammo boxes and others and i have an LMG which takes those bullets, how do I use them?

I believe you have to drop them on the ground then they become a container like other ammo boxes.

That's what he was saying, you drop them on the ground and then you loot the bullets, then you have bullets in your inventory.

Those are empty cases, you need to add lead, powder and blasting caps to turn them into bullets.
