At D2D: http://www.direct2drive.com/1/9684/product/Buy-Fallout-New-Vegas-Download

Use code "Schoolsvcks"

Too bad it's the Tribal pack- think I'll do it anyway.

Would it be that cheap because (as I understood it) D2D or not, it demands Steam?

Already pre ordered through Steam and I wouldn't want to use D2D anyway, so oh well.

As I understand it, you don't have to. Buy from D2D, and since it's a steamworks game, download from steam. Same as retail.

Just to Clarify, once you buy the game retail or from D2D, you only have to Activate it with Steam, not download it again. Once the Activation is done, you do not connect to Steam again, unless you want to.

Certainly. But D2D sends you a key, and it's your choice whether to download it from them or from Steam.

D2D svcks donkey [censored], it encrypts the executable making it impossible to install mods.

Particularly FOSE.

Mind, I'm wondering what'll happen in this particular case, since in theory you should just be able to download a clean copy from steam. Unless steam keeps track of D2D product keys and only lets you download the gimped version.

As I said above, on all Steamworks games, you can download the game from Steam, no matter where you bought it originally. And mods are no problems with FO3 on Steam.
