Rubberbanding inside new cell...

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 10:41 am

In one of my interior cells for a new mod, I am encountering a strange problem. 1/3 of the cell is inaccessible in game. I have 4 different approaches (hallways) to that section, but everytime I attempt to "cross the invisible line" (my cell is fairly symetrical and I can literally draw a line from north to south where the "line" is) it rubberbands me back to my teleport marker. The cell is clean and has no collision/portal/room markers. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?
Thanks

Look down. Is there a floor? When you walk over "no floor" it does this.

Yep, there is a floor...these are regular utilityhall kit pieces snapped together with no gaps or breaks. I have many other cells and this is the only one having this problem.

Is it possible there is a Z break?

Don't know what a Z break is...

Edit: if you mean a vertical break, everthing is aligned and snapped together, and I have tried to enter this section from 4 different tunnels and it still rubberbands me.

I mean a break in the plane of the floor, in the Z (vertical) dimension. If you look from the side, do you see some place where the floor suddenly jumps from one level to another? There is no reason for this rubberbanding to happen in a correctly constructed level. If you cannot find it, can you upload a temporary version of your mod someplace, maybe mediafire.com or (if small enough) zip and attach to a post here? Maybe somebody can spot another reason.

No, there are no gaps of any kind. This is much too large a mod to easily have someone look for this----the size of a Megaton+. Since the side of the cell that seems to be affected is not a critical part (I can still navigate to the parts that I need to get to), I think I will try and delete the affected section and with a little rebuild, I should be able to make it work. I'm gonna give that a shot first. Thanks for the effort.....much appreciated! :brokencomputer:

I have ran into similar issues while modding FO3. I was building a vault and, several of the tiles appeared properly in GECK and in game the looked like they were there but, when I walked over them I simply fell through the floor and, "Rubber-banded" back to the cell spawn. The only thing I could do to fix the issue was to delete the tile, save reload and, replace the tile.

not sure if this is the same issue but, try deleting at the point you have the issue and, replace the tile with new ones.

Now it is getting stranger....replacing the affected tiles/rubberbanding locations had no affect, so I decided to remove the entire section I couldn't get into. Now the rubberbanding has moved into the unaffected section and has rendered the critical part of my cell unusable. Looks as if I may have to rebuild the cell from scratch. I am now wondering...since I copied an existing North Vegas Sewer cell to use as the base for my cell...maybe it is a game glitch. I have one more thing to try before I give up and start over.

Happened to me some times on FO3, I just selected everything and dragged the whole section on another part of the cell. I was thinking that the problem was a limit to the cell sizze, so at a certain point the player can't advance.

But it seems is just a glitch but my mthod worked lol.
