My Opinion on Honest Hearts (Mild Spoilers)

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 2:18 am

I woke up at 2 AM excited as I could be for this DLC. I waited along with 80+ users in the forum for it to come out. About 2 hours and 30 minutes later it was released and downloaded. What baffled me was that a large location DLC that was supposed to be similar to PL was such a small download (I don't remember PL's download). Ignoring it I was excited to hop right in. The introduction was straight forward, a little more that I would have liked it seeing how your put with a group of interesting characters. Unfortunately, you don't have too much time to bond with them which was a little upsetting and made the DLC's beginning feel rushed. So fast forwarding a bit the locations that were there to discover were less than acceptable in my opinion. If it wasn't for an old survivor's notes I'd say this was the stalest thing I've ever played. Of course we had those good old useless locations that Obsidian seems to love to throw in here and there, but no different from the vanilla game. The story didn't have the most depth to it and really just closed a short story of who Joshua Graham was and what happened to him. The two options you have are only given to you very late in the game giving it a bleak play through and little replayability. The level cap increase didn't bother me at all but I believe some people frown upon it. If I'm not mistaken there's an option along with this DLC that allows you to prevent leveling up but I'll have to look into that. So now here I am in Zion Canyon, just about every inch of the place ventured, nothing else to do.

Now this was my opinion on the DLC and feel free to voice your own opinion but be warned that flaming will be ignored. Now a little note I just want to add is this. I can only speak for my self here when I say that I'm disappointed. I've stalked the forums for the smallest amount of news on this DLC and have waited about five months or longer. To be given this after that long of a wait, I expected much more. This is honestly like a slap across the face to me. Fallout is more than just a game I play in my free time. I'd like to think of my self as a dedicated fan who loves this series more than any other, and to be given this garbage? It's just unexceptable. I'll leave it at that. But I do hope I'm not the only one that feels this way, it just makes me feel sick to know this is the quality of your content your charge your fans.

P.S.

You forgot to use about half the map again, seems like a repeating unfortunate mistake. Next time at least have the dignity to trim it out instead of taunting us with it.

I pretty much agree with you 100%. Its a very pretty DLC, but the story seemed terribly short. In addition, if you were roleplaying a follower of Caesar you're pretty much locked out of the content. 7/10

I completely agree with that statement. It showed us a new side of NV's engine and the rain was just marvelous.

It was good....but I do agree with some of the negative remarks about it you listed. It certainly added a ton to the game as far as loot wise, but the storyline did feel a bit rushed. Having our caravan get wiped out right after we met them...well..I don't know what to say other than I didn't like that. Then, finally meeting The Burned Man...well that wasn't as epic as it should have been. We hardly spoke to him. I certainly hope Ulysses is given more love. There was a lot of things about it I liked, and I appreciate how much effort the devs put into giving the fans what they wanted in this DLC and I hate to knock on it for that particular reason..but there are some flaws in the whole plot of it. It just didn't seem "big" enough. Loved the rain, as well.

Also, I feel like, chronologically, this should come before Dead Money. It just seems to make more sense, not to mention the fact that it is nowhere near as difficult (thankfully.)

I was happy with it. Still wondering if the rain is everywhere though. TBH the wait made it overhyped, that seems to be everyones problem. Personally, the only problem I have is how
Spoiler
Everyone vanishes after the end
Other then that, well played out DLC, bit short and small (IF ANY of you say "thats what she said I will cut you somehow.) but it makes up for it in new content (armor, coffee, consumables, coffee, etc.)

I only have 4 points:

1) what I have played has been fun.

BUT

2) i can tell it is too short.
3the fast travel locations are so close together! it was weird. but they need to be because you have to walk up and down so much to get to them it is nice to have fast travel.
3) it seems pretty dang easy. I am level 34 but I am using this machine and so far I have only been injured because I was going melee just for kicks. this would be good to do at a lower level.

Dario, i thought you liked the Legion, i can't believe you are standing up for HH after it shows how biased the devs are.

It's good but horribly short with little replayability and i rather dislike Daniel theres no pleasing that guy hes just so friggin demanding....
Spoiler
He wants to leave they leave and he frigin dreams of zion. You stay and he has to work really hard O.o GET OVER YOURSELF

but anyway its kinda good if anything this shoulda been in the vanilla game with the amount of time it took to finish everything cause honestly when i first went through the vanilla game this DLC is how long i take to do the quests looking for everything etc etc
hopefully OWB and LR redeem this game.

I think the problem is that a lot of people felt let-down by Dead Money, especially since many had to wait so long just to play it. I don't think Bethesda/Obsidian did themselves a favor here by releasing the DLC so late because it appears many people had high expectations going into the DLC and some were clearly let down. The two month long radio silence by Bethesda/ Obsidian after Dead Money was released on PC and PS3 lead to many false rumors about Honest Hearts and many people generally had a false impression about the DLC. I guess some people thought the DLC was going to be huge or something like that. In a sense, it is quite large, especially compared to previous Fallout DLCs like the Pitt Mother[censored] Zeta. If this DLC had been released sooner, I doubt there would have been so many people complaining about it's length..

I personally found The Pitt and Point Lookout better then even the main Fallout 3 game, now, as for the other 3 DLC, IMO they were uber trash, I could care less for the loot, not a good story means a bad DLC for me, despite the stuff, exploration and battles,

For Me Both DLC′s were EQUAL GREAT!!

I mean they didn′t choose the best beginning in Honest Hearts, it could mess up your experience
for the first time.
But then when u take ur time it′s just GREAT. It fits wonderfull into the NEW VEGAS Universe.
Another different side.

And Dead money got the Collars and the Mouse in the Maze Syndrome.
But if you look at it from a distance then i must say, especially these first annoying mechanics
turned Dead Money into a brilliant and refreshing DLC.
So many people were asking for a Heist or a bit of Point Lookout Feel....So ObsidianDelivered.

Long Time since Dead Money, but keep in mind they want to deliver
Lonesome Road -- June
Old World Blues -- July
So there were busy like hell in my opinion.
No hype for Honest Hearts Needed.

Lets wait for the full package......they got something BIG for us in common, i am sure.

I believe it was good 8/10
i just had problems with falling off cliffs and lagging a little
i think the story was fine but i wish you could side with the white legs just to see the outcome

so yeah

and i wanted to have 45 to be sold in bulk like in the thousands
