[req] choochoo train and the monorail, I want to see them!

How hard do you guys think this would be? I'd love to see a Fallout version of a coal train riding the tracks while roaming the wasteland, Id also actually like to see the monorail go to and from the strip.

I'd like that, too. Too hard for me, though. I could rebuild (join up) the tracks, that's about it
I took the monorail into The Strip the other day and was hoping for an animated ride, like in the Presidential Metro in FO3. No such luck. Insta-teleporting isn't very fun. But just watching it from outside the walls go along its tracks would be good.

What does the monorail track look like, does it have a lot of turns? Depending on how it looks it should definitely be possible to script the ride into the city.

The monorail track, is that thing overhead around mccarran ad the southern end of th strip.

the train on the otherhand falls in the same category as the APC I was asking about in another thread( though not a whole lot, but it still fals there)

train suffers these:
most of the tracks have dirt covering the railways is spots or are busted.
no working train model
there is a un animtaed train engine somewhere in the mohave wasteland
texture??
and even un animated box cars

what you'd need is a model maker to take them, and animate them along with someone to script them to move along the rails

and then script a quest to uncover all the railroad and power up the engine....

lot a work there, the monorail fixerupper would be easier to do, but then I can't code or make models sooooo

just in case your curious
my Amored PErsonal CArrier idea requires

custom model for the main vehicle
separate turret moldel with one of the following weapons(Heavy incinerator, mini-gun, laser gattling gun, gauss rifle, laser riffle, light maching gun, plasma rifle, 9mm submachine gun, 10 mm submachine gun, sniper rifle and the aniti material rifle
(most could go, but the anti material rifle would have to be in it 50 caliber weapon) code to get rid of the recoild for a mounted weapon
animation for either tires or treads
scripting to have all henchmen to go there when told your fired instead of going to their homes instead
sctipting to put gear in instead of that mailbox
animation where needed.
texture
to much work......

now back to the monorail and train

now if you can find someone to do the train, now more pwoer to you.

This would be very cool if it could be done... but I doubt it can be.

That being said, there was an animated train ride sequence in the Broken Steel DLC for Fallout 3. Maybe something similar to that could be done here? (For the train ride to/from The Strip).

A working train might be a bit hard, but do you know what would make for the most amazing thing ever? A Wild Wasteland encounter that happens just once a month (in-game time); where you see a ghost train floating along the tracks. It actually lasts a few days, and does a few laps around the areas where there are tracks (even busted ones), just loating a litlte bit above them.

This could tie in with Nevada Skies, the area surrounding the train could be incredibly foggy, and the train could have a fog effect all of its own (especially around the bottom end, which might remove the necessity for an animated model?), and it would be transparent to a degree, of course.

It'd just be a bit of fun really for those with Wild Wasteland on.

And who doesn't love a ghost train?

(Idea guy. It's what I do. >_>)

it could be done like the "private presidential subway" thingie in the whitehouse in FO3. Its basically an animated object like any other moving objects only this time it follows or "pretends" to follow a track however it just moves from point a to b when it gets activated. This could be done for the monorail as well however it is really difficult to get it to work since you'll be having to deal with the fact that it has to cross multiple cells which makes it impossible to animate because the size of the track is to big. Also if the position of the object of the base cell is just a little bit off to the left or right it would mean that say, 10 cells away from the base cell the animation will be off track since the scale and position of the track has to match the rails precisely. Besides I dont even know if you can have an object that crosses various cells that is animated etc. Also I have no idea what kind of effect this will have on LOD objects.

What you could do is make a separate animation for each cell and script it so that the monorail animation will play randomly which kind of fakes the effect of a monorail moving through the wasteland. However this would mean that you have to animate and script a monorail for each exterior cell that has monorail tracks. But even if you do this it is extremely hard to have the monorail animation match the track length, curves and whatever precisely, since they are build by hand in the editor peice by peice. It would be easier if the whole monorail track was one big object so you have the exact size and path of the track. However even if you still succeed in doing this...this would also mean that the monorail won't be "ridable" in real time. The private subway in FO3 is as far as I know nothing more than an animated object and an animated camera that fakes the effect of a ridable subway. So one way or the other it seems like a simple idea but it is very complex to actually make this work ingame.

EDIT: I just checked the working train mod on fallout nexus and that's basically what you get. It works but it only moves in a straight line, it's actually really easy to do, however it becomes way more complex when you try to make a train that has to follow a full track with curves etc throughout the wasteland unless you have a perfect map of the whole track. And by perfect I mean PERFECT one pixel off track on the "north side" could mean massive off track animation on the "south side"

Perhaps it would be easier to make a train/monorail you are riding rather than watching it go by. The latter seems terribly difficult, but the former not so much. It should only require 3 cells: the one where you enter the train/monorail, the one while you are in it, and the one where you leave it. The first would have the train/monorail and a teleport door that takes you to the second. Then, a cut scene script would fire once you enter the second (on the train) cell. The cut scene script would basically be a video you see out the windows of whatever scenery you wanted to place there. When the script finishes, it would stop on a station scene and the door would open. Going through the door would be just like the various caves, you move to the point where it asks if you want to go outside to the station. You click on "E" and teleport to the station.

I was thinking this, however it would be a lot cooler if you could experience the whole ride in real time, instead of the same cut scene every time.
