Q&A Thread

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 1:09 pm

Oh god I hate creating threads... Anyway.
So I've been seeing some threads that are started by people where they want to ask something quick.
Well, I thought, why not just have one thread where all quick questions go?

If you have a question that is not something that's worth creating a whole new thread for just ask it in here and your fellow forum dwellers will be happy to answer it.
So say someone hears about the DT system and he has no idea what it is, he could just ask it in here and anyone can answer him.

But this is not a thread for opinions or speculation=facts.
So asking "who do you like the most, CL or NCR" is not what this thread is about.
For that you should create your own thread.
But discussions are allowed, just don't derail the thread too much ok?

Seeing as I'm lazy as hell and is playing Oblivion at the moment to actually go find the information for myself I'll go first:
What new changes have been done to the repair system?
I remember hearing that we would be able to use fallout 3's repair item's system (merging them together) right off the bat up to 100% in condition.

To answer the repair question
I'm pretty sure your right about the merging of weapons for repair
and on top of that
there are supposed to be repair kits
I believe they work in a similar way to repair hammers in Oblivion
I think they were added for those rarer weapons and armor where its difficult to find a copy

On repair kits, can one kit repair several items, or will it always be a one time use?

From an intervew, seems we might be able to sleep in beds belonging to others, with a karma hit. Any word on bed rolls to avoid negative karma?

Is it technically possible (although I wouldn't want to do it), to just kill all 2200 or so people in the game and beat it without doing one single quest?

Edit: to add couple more questions.....

Oh goody, nice idea!

1- Can I be a cannibal still?

2-Will having a high agility effect movement speed and how high/fast you can jump?

3-Can I smoke?

Well, unfortunately forum members can only answer what's been confirmed. :)
As far as I know it's unknown if we can be cannibals and smoke or what agility affects other than Action Points.
But I honestly can't see a reason for them removing the Cannibal perk. Maybe tweak it but why remove something that adds to different roleplaying experiences?

Anyone heard any words on if recoil will be a (skillbased, preferably) factor in gunplay?

One of the gameplay vid showed them shooting the .50 from the hip and it almost knocked the PC down. I don't know if any other guns have recoil modeled, but the AMR seems to.

Would be nice to see it featured elsewhere too. Especially in ADS moments.

Well the Anti-Material rifle was shown to have recoil, whether that is governed by skills, SPECIAL, or not at all remains to be seen.

Was beaten to it.

The Light Machine Gun barely had any recoil at all, which is a bit disappointing. They'd be the guns to have among the most recoil of all the weapons.

Noticed that too. Also noticed that, AMR aside, there's little to no recoil on any weapon. That can be because the demos are tweaked to high skill and stat values, but I kinda doubt it - which is, admittedly, a bit disappointing.

Their preview character was probably at least 8 Strength and probably 100 Guns skill. Its possible, for you, it WILL have a lot of recoil.

Maybe the less strength you have affects the recoil
seeing as there is a STR requirement for weapons but your still allowed to use them all
I guess high recoil might be something that plays into that

A somewhat repair related question i have is will the condition of the weapon affect more then the stats and chance of it jamming? I know one thing that bugged me in Fallout 3 was that a hunting rifle thats one shot away from breaking looked excalty the same as a hunting rifle at 100%.

Wouldn't they have to create one hell of a lot of models for the weapons if there's going to be mods for them as well?

I mean:
Crap hunting rifle
Hunting rifle
Perfect hunting rifle
Crap hunting rifle+scope
Crap hunting rifle+clip
Crap hunting rifle+that third thingy
Crap hunting rifle+scope&clip
Crap hunting rifle+scope&third thingy
Crap hunting rifle+clip&third thingy
Crap hunting rifle+scope, clip&third thingy
Hunting rifle+scope
Hunting Rifle+clip
etc

in a perfect world, a hunting rifle would work similar to the player character. putting on clothes changes the look and states of a character, such the same would work for a hunting rifle modifications, scope, etc etc would all be clothing additions, allowing the hunting rifles model to be independant without annoying replicates of the same model taking up precious time and space :D.

But this is not a perfect world, and thus the plausibility and implications of said above are......yeah...

So the devs said you could sneak into a factions camp that you have a bad rep with and do their quests.

Does anyone know if you can sabotage that factions quest?

ex. NCR is attacking the CL and you turn on the NCR and just start killing them and still complete the quest.

Are you serious? That thing was bouncing all over the place. Plus, considering that it fires 5.56, it shouldn't have much recoil at all.

Has it been confirmed that smaller factions like Omerta, Powder Gangers and Kings will have their own small storylines or are those factions 1-3 quests then done?

Yeah... Sorry for a bump but I'm really not in the mood to search around NMA/wikia news archive for this.
There were no threads about this subject so instead of creating a new it's just for the best to use the old one.

Has it been confirmed if we are still forced to set our our skill points and perks?
In fallout 3 when the level up screen comes up we have to set out our points and pick a perk before we can continue playing, while in the old games we could just leave it be and set our skill points out whenever we wanted to and if we came to lvl 3 and didn't pick a perk and continuously choose to not pick one, then when we reach lvl 6 we lose our chance to pick a lvl 3 perk.

How is it gonna be this time?
Forced lvl up or place our points whenever we want to?
