Modding My Game

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 3:49 pm

Hey all! I recently got my Fallout:NV on PC and I want to try out mods! I have no idea how to do this... :sadvaultboy:

Anyone have any good started mods? Maybe cinematic/visual mods? Also how to install them and start them up in the game? I also wouldn't mind one of those picture taking ones, where you can get your character is a position and what not. Any recommendations are welcome!

Thanks.

I would go check out http://www.newvegasnexus.com/ it's hands down the best place to get mods

as for installing here's a snip-it from steam

How Do I Install Downloaded Fallout: New Vegas Mod's?

Fallout: New Vegas players may wish to make use of game modifications created by other players. Information on how to install and activate mod's is listed below.

Download the game modification.
Extract the files to your Fallout: New Vegas "Data" folder. This folder is usually found in "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas\Data".
Launch Fallout: New Vegas.
Select "Data Files" when the game launcher opens.
Check the mod you wish to activate.

The modification will now be translated into the game.

Good luck and welcome to the amazing world of mods :twirl: you will never want to leave

Try just typing in steam and go from there.

When typing in your search box try just putting steam in there.

As for the installing the GECK http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1533535 is the steam info on it.

As for learning to use it start here at the http://geck.gamesas.com/index.php/Main_Page start with the "My First Vault" tutorial series....that is where I started after that here is some more http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/952768-geck-video-tutorials-on-you-tube/ that cover other subjects.

These forums have lots of great peeps that are extremely knowledgeable and just as helpful...one of the reasons I  this place.

A word of encouragement it will frustrate at times but stick with it for the enjoyment of making your own mod is well worth it and feels great

Good luck

If you're running a 64-bit system, you may have it installed in Program Files x86 instead of Program Files. If that's not it, you may want to do a search for your fallout new vegas folder. The data folder is a folder in the fallout new vegas folder. If that doesn't help, I'm not sure what's wrong.

I looked in my Program File x86 it wasn't there. The Fallout:NV file is in my other program files, but when I open it, all I have is:

Saves
Fallout
FalloutPrefs
RendererInfo

I am so confused right now :banghead:

You're in the wrong folder. This is where Fallout NV saves the user settings and saves.

Try searching your computer for "FalloutNV.exe".

Go into your start menu and in the search bar type in "steam" without quote marks :) do not hit the enter button. once you see steam pop up right click on it and scroll down to open file folder. open it, then you will be in the proper folder. After that the folder structure should look like this: steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas\Data. Hope this helps you a little more.

I've worked out how to do mods (Well some anyway :o)

but I need help with how to enter items in the game? I've looked around a bit and it said to press ~ in the game but it doesn't work? Any Ideas? I have the codes, I just don't know how to get them in the game?

Thanks in advance.

Hi there :)

As people have already said, the Nexus is a great place to get mods from and since someone has already provided a link to the main site, I am going to provide you with the links to some of my favourite mods!

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35335 - like it says, provides realistic weapons damage. Headshots are now an instant kill (although the mod I originally downloaded for this role has been taken off the Nexus, I still use this one).

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34888 - the MUST HAVE mod! It recolours the ENTIRE game. I can't describe it, just take a look.

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35485 - this mods the Brotherhoods Safehouse to have every Vanilla weapon and Armour/Clothing item in the game, along with respawning ammo containers!

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37199 - this upgrades the Lucky 38 Suite! At first you won't notice, but wander through the rooms and you'll see a couple of new rooms added!

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36922 - this lets you set up your own settlement! A popular mod in FO3, but is still in Beta for NV, but with a dedicated Modding team and an active forums on an external site, this is constantly being improved.

Thats because the console is NOT OPENED by tilde. It annoys me to no freaking end that people say that it does. The key you want is the backwards apostrophe ` .

In order to type tilde, lets consider the keys you must press. Shift + ` . That means you must press 2 keys, making tilde a subfunction of a key, not an actual key. Not to mention, if you have a UK keyboard, tilde isnt even on the ` key, so by saying the console is the "tilde key" you are confusing many people.

If the ` key still isnt working, then you may be one of the unlucky few that have this problem. Im not sure if the old mod has been made for NV to allow people to open the console from a game item.

Darn, its not working with `

I added the -console to the end of the "target" section under shortcut in the properties.
