Clarification about Raul

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 10:59 am

I am trying to determine if this is a error or how the game was intended:

I previously posted I couldn't get Raul to repair. He gives me his line about pulling his toolbox out of his back pocket, then tells me to meet him at his shack. Raul will not repair my gear while in my party and in his shack. But when I dimiss him from party he will repair in his shack. What I dont understand is the companion "talk" option to "can you repair my gear" if he wont repair my gear as a member of my party.
Shouldn't Raul do this as a companion even if he has to be in his shack? It seems convoluted to have this option if he basically has to be a regular npc. I don't et the point of taking Raul back to his shack and dismissing him just to repair gear.
Any thoughts? Was this just another way for the Devs to create a puzzle? Or more an accident that isn't worth fixing?

SPOILER:
it's easier to create weapon repair kits than to pay for repairs (though Raul will repair to 100% but it still costs you).

That's not helpful. Just to repeat from previous posts: almost done with second playthrough, only had significant freeze during 1st playthrough. Now spent 150 hours in the game. Loved it more than almost all other games combined this year.

But thanks for your helpful response. If YOU are having issues maybe you should start over. It's honestly worth it. Ive had no game corrupting issues and I think it's had a LOT to do with how meticulous I am about saving frequently and with numerous saves.

I'd still like to know about my issue with Raul.

As far as I can tell this is how they intended it to work, it doesn't seem broken to me, just a strange way of implementing the character.

Raul's Repair is 100% and unless you attack him you don't have to worry about keeping good faction with him, other repairers with 100 skill that I have found require you to have a good faction standing with them. This is working as it's intended I think, though it does seem weird you have to disband him from the party, having him in his own shack with his own tools makes sense to me. You might think it's easier to create weapon repair kits, but some people are lazy and just want to pay for their repairs.

You also already have a perk from him that makes your weapons degrade slower, allowing him to be around and repairing things for you on the fly seems like it would be a bit much.

That was my assumption, too. Once knowing the simple ingredients for weapon repairing, I've almost solely focused on foraging those items. I have kept Raul in my party to reduce item deterioration since I am nearing the end of my second playthrough and want my economy spent on ammo and armor and the like.

I think the only reason I really question Raul's companionship in regard to repairs is it's inclusion in companion dialog. Seems like he should repair in his shack as directed but without disbanding. Regardless, I just wanted to clarify. Thanks.

i've played it twice,up to level 22 the first time then it crashed as i exited luckys, level 16 the second time, then it crashed as i exited luckys! tried loading various save points both times, but it always crashes at luckys, this is a great looking game but there is a limit to how many times one can attempt playing it,i will admit i've still got my copy in the hope of some quality patches.

Not to say you're wrong AT all, but I am still finding it interesting that everyone is having unique crash experiences. I can only suggest it was related to the scenario you had built in hour questline. Did you try siding with house vs yes man vs Caesar to see a diff outcome re crashes?
I typically stagger saves every hour or two (just about over written all previous playthrough saves (all 100) and this has helped me backtrack when necessary.
Another question, as dumb as it sounds, do you live in the states? I am I florida (I am just mildly curious if this is affecting people in all regions).
Just trying to help.

Haha. My dad is from Manchester. I know it shouldn't matter but I'm curious WHERE most of tge problems are arising.
Did you say every level up you save? If so that is far too rarely. You should be doing it every significant location and/or every 30-60 minutes.
But I believe you about your 38 problem.
