Ok, so the devs have identified the problem, according to their updates post, and the patch is in the works. This is great news of course, but here's my question...
If you've solved the issue, then logically you know what causes it. Can you tell us this now, whilst we wait for the patch, so we can avoid whatever causes it in the meantime?

I don't think it's something you can avoid. Everyone thinks it's caused by whatever quest they were on when it happened or the area of the map they were in. It's not caused by a certain place or quest. Regardless, you won't hear any official word about it again until it is released, I'm surprised they gave us an update on their progress.
IMO It is considered very courteous for them to tell us they are actually working on patches. Software developers will rarely divulge specific information to the public about why/how these issues occur.
I can tell you this because I work as a software developer. When a client comes to us through technical support about certain important/urgent issues, we will just tell them we are looking into it. We won't give dates unless we know what is involved. If it takes 1 hour to fix, we will say 1 day. If and when we get it fixed, we will just tell them where to get the updates from but we will never tell them why. The root cause could varied from developers' blunders, other defects, to design issues.

The only way to avoid whatever causes it is to not play it until the patch is up & running, fingers crossed it won't have any glitches!

I had all the issues with freezes and everything in the game until I tried the Old Cowboy hat trick posted on here. I haven't had a single issue since as far as corrupted saves go. It still freezes here and there but my auto save doesn't corrupt. It also allows you to enter the strip without the problems. Not my idea but it works none the less.

i'll give it a go,what's there to lose? only the hair from the edge of my bald patch (no i can't get a patch for it!) as the stess from it crashing again hits me.

Is this just to protect the business; you don't want to be rambling on about why your product isn't working correctly?

Every official statement they make is scrutinized and published and quoted on websites, in magazines, etc.
The game received high review scores and has just sold 5 million copies, why would they issue more statements about how they're sorry that their game doesn't work properly and they're desperately trying to fix it? They don't want to draw attention to that. They want to get their patch out so everyone forgets there were ever problems.

Compounding the issue is the fact that gamers tend to have a short memory span - Black Ops will be out soon and we will move on to The Next Great Thing, believe the Hype and forget about Fallout-NV....
