Wait, common weapons and consumables are purchasable back in

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 3:50 pm

I was reading through the wiki articles (since I can't actually PLAY the DLC, thank you Hackers) and started noticing that the .45 Pistol and Machine Guns, the Yao Guai Gauntlet, and even the Fire Bombs and Tomahawks are purchasable at places like Gun Runners. Is that really true? Do I not have to trek back to Zion (although it does sound like a beautiful place, so I probably wouldn't mind) to scour for these?

And on that note, WHY DIDN'T THEY DO THIS WITH DEAD MONEY!?
I would like to be able to buy more Police Pistols, Automatic Rifles, Bear Trap Fists and Cosmic Knives!

Please add that in an update Obsidian? Please?

The difference is that the Mojave trades with Zion Valley. The Mojave folk don't have the chance to trade with people from the Sierra Madre, since the "people" of the Sierra Madre are pseudo-religious cannibal zombies.

Weapon mods are also purchasable, as are the majority of the weapons (exlcuding the rare/unique). At least from the Gun Runners anyway.

Yeah, it might not make 'lore sense' for the DM weapons to be buyable but come on. Does it really ruin the story that much for those who didn't bring them back to buy them? It'd be a lot more convenient. Good thing I brought them all back though :hubbahubba:

Don't get me wrong, I do love the Automatic Rifle, but eh. The .45 SMG is far more iconic and in demand. I'm wondering if this hurts or hinders my theory that the next Fallout will be in Chicago with a gangster theme versus NV's western theme.

I vote for Omaha. Better natural layout, and much more important location strategically. Although I could see Chicago being a port for international trade because of the great lakes.

I think that's why they added vending machines in Dead Money

I agree, though personally I would love to see a Ganster-esque Post Apocalyptic Chicago in the next game. :whistling:

This. Though, as long as you have jury rigging, you don't need more than one of the DM weps/armour/clothes, unless you collect like I do. :whistling:

But there's plenty of ways they could write off getting Sierra Madre Supplies

For instance:
"Since the discovery and infiltration of the Sierra Madre Casino; Scavengers, Prospectors, and evening Trading Caravans have located and plundered the City beneath the Blood Red Cloud for it's valuable treasures and returned to the Mojave to turn a profit."

There, in one sentence, I've created an excellent reason to patch the items into Gun Runners or other Merchants.

"And so the scavengers, prospectors, and even trading caravans lost their lives in a foolish bid to plunder the Sierra Madre of its resources, just like so many others before them. Because war...war never changes..."

And one sentence rebuked the hell out of your one sentence. Also, what profit? Selling automatic rifles and police pistols? The Gun Runners can already build light machine guns and .357 magnums without even half the risk. Some random traders with beat-up Sierra Madre gear can't compete with that, if they even lived to bring such salvage back.

Which contradicts everything that we were told about the sierra madre like it being near impossible to find and even then the security system would still be active thus stripping looters of their gear that ands theres the poisonous cloud along with the ghost people to deal with while trying to scaveng, it would very likely be written off by any sane person as not worth it as for those that tried well look at what happened to your predecessor's they all died. So saying hey we found it and having the place stripped bare seems way out of line with what we were told and experienced.

I do understand why i can get only one holorifle but i thought there where more than 12 automatic rifle's and 16 police pistols in America.
So i don't see any reason for them to not be at the gunrunners.

Well its been 200 years since the war and it could easily be assumed that very few of thes weapons are left after all that time, it would largely depend on their abundance pre war there aren't many BAR's left and the revolver as a whole has been phased out of police departments it would be a fairly safe assumption that the same happened in the fallout timeline. So couple fairly small numbers with 200 years worth of destruction and those 2 weapons are probably very rare so whose to say the gun runners have ever come across them before or that they thought they'd be profitable to make.

Well cowboy repeater are also paced out so why are there so many of them?
And gun runners can build weapons them self so if the come across one they reverse engineer it and build more.

The Auto Rifle was no longer in favor with the U.S. military. Probably decommissioned in favor of the LMG and minigun. The Sierra Madre security force likely got them surplus. Thus, it is very rare outside the Sierra Madre.

True I'm positive the military would have phased it out long ago but there are plenty of ranchers and civilians that own them so they'd be a lot more common, and yes the gun runners probably could reverse engineer the auto rifle but who's to say they've run across any or that thered be a large enough demand for such a high priced weapon that it would be economically feasible they'd be expensive to produce and use expensive ammo to boot so individual sales would be low and the only large purchaser in the mojave the NCR obviously prefers quantity to quality and are about broke as is without making a massive order for a very expensive weapon, if theres no one to sell it to theres no reason to make it.
