[Idea] ED-E Unlocks Enclave Radio?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:55 am

I'm not a huge fan of Followers in Bethesda games, but I've decided to give them another shot in New Vegas. Currently I'm running around with ED-E and Cass (Debating if I want that Mod that removes the Companion Limiter), and I got to thinking with ED-E, would it be possible to code something in so that when you repair him, you unlock the Enclave Radio Station from Fallout 3?

I can't think setting up the station would be that difficult - just shunt over the relevant audio files - but could a person tie it into the activation of an NPC like that?

The theory behind the mod is that ED-E, being an Enclave Eyebot, also serves as a mobile transmitter, to broadcast Enclave Propaganda. Since he's leading from the Airforce Base in the Capital Wasteland, he'd still only have access to the propaganda tapes of John Henry Eden. Or, if it was possible, I might feel ambitious and record a new "DJ" for the Enclave Radio (Put that Broadcasting Degree to work, I suppose).

Just kinda tossing that idea out there.

First, a little off topic: Can I get a link to that mod that removes the companion limit? Was looking for one of those yesterday, but couldn't find anything.

But anyways, I think this would be a great idea. I was never much of a fan of Enclave Radio in FO3, but I think it would make it more immersive if we had something like this.

And while I literally have no know how on how to make a mod like this work, I was inspired enough to throw together a "test run" of a new Enclave Radio station, one that doesn't include John Henry Eden. Instead, I've made up the persona "Alan Morgan".

I did this all cold and made up on the spot, so there are some gaffs. Needless to say, I've taken inspiration from modern day News Talk.

So if anyone's interested in me doing a set of these, I'd be more then happy to. Or if someone could guide me through how to set up my own personal Enclave Radio channel in New Vegas, that'd work too. But I literally have zero experience with the GECK, so every time I open it I'm kinda slack jawed and drooling.

Anyone?

Really, all I need is somebody to point generally where to go in the GECK to create a new Radio Station, and I could easily handle the rest. I just need someone to help put my feet on the path, so I'm not flailing in the dark.

Radio stations are a bit weird, but there's some stuff about them on the http://geck.gamesas.com/index.php/Radio_Stations Radio stations are technically a form of conversation, with songs connected together by random "Next topic" links. There's a link to a video tutorial on the page, but I've got no idea how useful it is.

Just keep in mind you can't use the audio files from the FO3 enclave radio - you're not allowed to use assets from one gamesas game in another, so you'll have have to find non-copyrighted songs that fit and record all the talk yourself :)

That shouldn't be too difficult, since most Patriotic Songs are Public Domain anyway.

Cool. Looking forward to this, more radios is always a good thing - I play FO3 with More Where That Came From, CONELRAD and Existence 2.0 :D

This sounds like a great idea. I definitely wouldn't mind it.

If all goes as planned, then I can't wait to hear "Alan Morgan." :goodjob:

Have you come up with anymore topics since the ghouls? Have you thought about referencing past events from Fallout 3 and back?

Alan will definitely address some of the issues affecting the modern Enclave - such as the Oil Rig incident and the assassinations of the past two Presidents. I don't want to jump right into it though, as I'm not certain if there is anything Enclave Related within New Vegas itself, and I don't want to contradict anything actually present within the game (For example, I know that the Enclave Officer's Uniform and Enclave Power Armor both exist within New Vegas proper - as their base ids are identical).

In addition to ranting a la Glenn Beck, I also plan to do some Educational PSAs for the benefits of those out in the Wasteland.

I'd download it if there was a YouTube Poop variant as well.
