Game Crash - Lost Quicksaves :(

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 4:29 am

Hi,

Has anyone else run into this issue? I'm rather aggravated. I was walking West of the NCR prison when my game crashed. Oh well, I thought, then reloaded the game only to have my quicksave gone. I lost about 3 hours of gametime and an old quicksave is in the slot instead. So annoyed!

This just happened to me; lost three or four levels and over three hours of gameplay and went back to a save only three hours in; despite liberal use of quicksave.

More detailed: After my SECOND crash to desktop, when I reloaded the game, the only saves available were a quicksave and an autosave several hours old. I believe they were from shortly before my first crash to desktop, but not immediately before (probably unrelated).

I'm not repeating the last three hours of game if this sort of thing is common. Buying it on Steam day one was stupid; like all Bethesda games, they're great, well-written, expansive, etc. but good luck actually trying to play them through the massive amounts of bugs. Better to wait a few months for the fixes to start rolling in.

You might want to try this, it didn't work for me but appears to be working for some:

Thanks a ton for that; it didn't work at first but after some fighting with the game (and three crashes while attempting it) I got it to work by loading the game, alt-tabbing, then replacing the .fos and .fos.bak files as it explained after the game was already running. It overwrote them every time before that.

I almost screamed when I realized my saves had reverted to the first set of save points I'd set out of the Doc's house. Until then I had not seen a single glitch, and I was just about to jump for joy that FO:NV actually WORKED (unlike the super buggy FO 3) Hours of play, gone.

Nothing to be done but wait, I guess.
