Frame drops hardcoe when NPC talk.

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 11:26 am

The game works pretty good besides the fact that when NPC's talk the framerate drops very bad. I'm guessing its the animations instead of the voices since the voices are over somewhat before the animation, sometimes it gets real bad, and the voice ends and the game is nearly frozen. It is unplayable, and I am sadden by this. I need help fixing this problem because I really want to enjoy the game.

If that's on a PC, where are the needed hardware summaries and software environment details?

I had a similar problem with Oblivion on my old PC when that first came out. When there was no NPC or creature about, smooth as silk. Then looking at a bunch of NPCs = low FPS.

It's probably the AI and the time it takes the processor to process the information of the NPCs around, the more there are the worse it gets. There is also another thread with this topic I've been reading, I would assume most if not all of those people in it have played FO3 and not had these issues, so why are they having it with NV? Did the developers not have this issue? and if not I'd like to know what kind of super-computers they have.

Anyways hopefully there should be a patch for this issue, as I can run FO3 no problem.

I'm playing on PC, and no matter what I turn the graphics to, high or low, it doesn't fix this. I mean I can look at NPC's, but the moment they open there mouth my framerate crashes. I honestly think it's the animation. Even indoors. The game would run so smooth but right when someone talks it just drops in framerate, regardless if you are actually conversing with them or they are just freely talking. Weird part is you have to be looking right at them, if you look away the framerate goes back to normal and you can still here there conversation.

I played FO3 on PC with high graphics so I doubt it's my computer.

Exact same problem. Smooth as can be, then when someone starts talking, the FPS reaches an unplayable level.

Running windows 7 64 bit, with a laptop well over the requirements. Nvidia GeForce 9800M GS

Same problem here. I've tried reducing the res to 1280x720 and adjusting other graphics settings. I've gotten down to 7 fps. FPS starts at 50-60 before talking (v-sync on), drops to about 30 in conversation, and the longer the npc talks, the lower the fps goes. Lips noticably de-sync at around 11 fps.

Specs:
Windows 7 x64
intel core i7 960 @ 3.2GHz
nvidia gtx 295 1.7gb
12gb RAM

Anyone have ideas or solutions?
