Stealth and Commanding companions

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 2:05 pm

I haven't thought about this before, but if you see two bandits ahead and you have a sneak mode and you have Cicero as a companion, or any other pro-sneaker, wouldn't you be able to backstab both bandits at the same time by telling him to attack the left one and you go kill the other one? If a companion stays in stealth mode after an order to attack, the possibilities become quite huge and add even more fun to the sneaking around! I have no time to test this until saturday morning and would very much like to know how double backstabbing works out, for anyone who has access to a sneak companion with a dagger. :foodndrink:

pfffffft.... I have come to the conclusion that it's pointless taking a companion into any dungeons with you if you want to capitalize on stealth. We're talking WORSE than clumsy. I think they trigger traps on purpose! for the attention! Even after I take great pains in avoiding bone alarms and pressure switches, the stupid companions invariably always spoil the day with their careless AI.

Is there a way to notify the A.I that you noticed the trap? a way to disarm pressure plates or runes? Or bone alarms? Maybe that's my problem...I see them, but the computer doesn't know I see them.

As far as I know, doesn't work, sadly. As soon as you give the command to attack, they leave stealth mode. I tried it using a DB associate during the Dark Brotherhood forever quests.

It was hilarious seeing her arrested by the guards, and then apologising to me afterwards before I busted her out, but ce la vie.

the one companion I tried so far, J'zargo of the college of winterhold, was useless, taking my enchanted legendary armor that let him cast destruction and restoration for free and casting weak low level destruction magic that didn't put a dent into anything. My first experience with followers was not a good one. Did not use the staff I gave him to conjure dremora either.

Will probably just use my conjuration and restoration and go solo, summoning dremoras as needed, and using grand healing and wards and all the other stuff that having free conjuration and restoration spells provide. I get irritated enough when my conjured dremoras get stuck in the terrain.. it's nice to just be able to cast new ones on the fly to fix pathing issues and not have to worry if one's companion/follower is still following them while climbing mountains, crossing rivers, etc.

They should have made amulets that allow you to not trigger traps, specifically to give them to followers to use. An in-game sort of telepathic system where you can get them to come right to you after they get stuck somewhere would be nice as well.
