Strange (Temporary) F5 - fix to dungeon Microstutter

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 8:13 am

So,
I have tried many things to try and remedy once and for all the Microstuttering... I have not tried beta yet to see if it is any better...

I am running a 5970/5850 combo, core i7 920, 12gb Ram Blah Blah...

Anyway, What i have done to fix my microstuttering initially was finda problematic spot indoors where FPS would typically be very high, Much higher than 60FPS and i start fiddling...

I ended up with
-VSync Enabled
-Dxtory FPS limit to 60

Smooth as butter and i am very happy... Until recently...

I am finding that every so often in a dungeon gameplay is nice and smooth... Then microstuttering starts (it is very annoying !!!) anyway.... I was about to restart the game to make sure DXtory is running... so I hit F5 to do a Quick Save...

Then.. What? Everything was nice and smooth again.... After performing a Quick Save..... A few minutes (Maybe shorter.. longer i didn't time it) , it starts stuttering again... so i try a Quick SAve...... YEP, gone again....

Anyone else tried this out or experience similar results?

Set dxtory to 59 fps, not 60, it should fix the problem

Thanks for the tip. A fps limiter did the trick for me, too. But why exactly? I would be grateful for an answer. Because I don't understand why frames get skipped in the first place. And why a limiter would remedy the problem, because it also fixed issues of frame skipping when my framerate was way below 60. I've an lcd with a refresh rate of 60 btw. And why doesn't do the trick anyway? As you can see, I'm confused.

I don't think many people know exactly why the stutter that a limiter would fix occurs. Some people think it is a problem in the engine that used to be called the 64hz problem.

Oblivion, fallout 3, and fallout new Vegas had this problem and it was fixed with SkyRanger's Stutter Remover mod.
