What's your favorite city and why?

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 10:09 pm

I can't really list my favorite yet, as I haven't actually visited every city. I still need to go to Winterhold, Falkreath, Dawnstar and Morthal..... I'm hoping the other cities are more upbeat and pleasant, unlike Riften and Windhelm. Both those cities depress the crap out of me.

Windhelm, it's snowy, cold and dark, it reflects my personality and mind.

Whiterun is pretty much my home with Riften being my extended merchant mine. However, Windhelm is starting to grow on me. It's a bit of a maze and a little creepy but something about it appeals to me.

Whiterun or Markarth

Was going to say the same! Whiterun is the most attractive city to me. It also reminds me a lot of Edoras from LOTR (films) which it was clearly heavily inspired by.

Markarth though is just an enchanting place. Feels ancient and the layout is just awesome with the streams coming down off the mountain and the guard tower dominating everything. Definitely the most unique city in the game.

One thing that is great about Skyrim is the cities, definitely compared to Oblivion. Oblivion's cities were very... boring. They really stepped up on that here.

Riften, my favorite character and types of characters/npcs are thieves, so naturally the main thief city will be my favorite.

None of them are a Skingrad, Imperial City, Balmora or Vivec. They're fine, but none seem as interesting or magical. Solitude is downright sad for the capital of a province.

Markarth. You just gotta love the idea that there is a beautiful waterfall pouring into and running throughout the town.

whiterun
just because I know my way around and have a house there
no real reason besides that
if they started the game around another city that would probably be my favourite one
do have plenty of money to move though, might go around to other towns to find one of my liking

Windhelm, I love the amount of snow in and around the city. Some of the Nords who live there can be real pricks but after you brawl them or help out other local people then you can more of the cooler people of the city. Another thing is that the house has to be one of the best with the hudge size and amount of bookselfs and weapon racks.

Edit: And I'm a Stormcloark supporter. (I'm a fair Stormcloak not a "Skyrim for Nords" guy)

I like the snow in Windhelm. I'm also a Stormcloak so that helps. But I like Markath too, so much to explore there. I haven't bought a house yet so I'm debating between the two.

Windhelm, I loved how it had all the trappings of a city, slums, a market, a rich quarter, narrow messy streets etc.

Windhelm and Markath are the best cities I saw when I used to play Skyrim. They were the only two that didn't remind me of the generic cities in Oblivion.

Riften.

I used to think it was so [censored] depressing, but then I went to Dawnstar. Plus my favorite guild is there.
