Boy..Skyrim is so complete its pretty easy to name my top three because thats all i use

SkyUI- when am in the mood for a pc oriented user interface eventhough i find the original very attractive as well with plenty of mystical ambience.
Caliente's Body Mod - Big Bottom Edition v3.0- Just a personal favorite to add an extra layer of advlt fire though those forsworn wild women sure dont need no body mods :D
CBBE Skin Texture v1 8 Shaved- great separate addon which enhances the above excellent mod even more.

Other then those when the mod mood hits me i usually play moddless as i am at the moment because Skyrim is just that great and complete.

At the moment, my top three would be these:

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=7654 by Plutoman. Allows the player to tweak indoor and outdoor lighting, tint and color values to whatever value they desire. I have mine configured to remove vanilla desaturation, making Skyrim almost as colorful as Oblivion.

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=9557 by Arthmoor. Adds new beginning to Skyrim, such as arriving by ship, owner of a house, member of a Guild, patron at an Inn, an outlaw in the wilds, soldier in the army, a hunter in the woods...and many, mnay more.

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=11135 by whickus. Adds and/or expands nearly 250 quest descriptions to make them more meaningful, allowing the player to avoid the non-roleplaying dependance on quest markers.

Thanks for the mod recommendations Pseron Wyrd and generously of your time providing the links. Will check out that Realistic Lighting With Customization. Hopefully i'll have better luck with it then other ENB style mods i've tried which give fire the glow of an atomic bomb

1. Deadlier traps. Makes the environment harder

2. harder higher levels. I don't remember the name, but it adds another set of enemy variants (just like bandits, outlaw bandits, bandit chieftans) to make the end game more challenging

3. Improved favorites menu.

So far here are my top 3:

1. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=4323 - Barely drops any frame rate and making Skyrim feels more dangerous at night.

2 http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=4929 - This mod cannot be any more useful, it is very simple yet very effective.

3. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=95 - For some reason, these fonts feel more "Elder Scrolls-friendly" than the default font. Just gives a better feel while playing the game.

i think it would be way too hard for me, so ill name a few of my favs if thats ok?

SERIOUS SKYRIM HD TEXTURES,
just amazing, never seen textures as good as these in any game

DOVAKIN CAN RELAX TOO:
basicly whenever you press the shout button, main character can lean on walls, pretend to read a book, feed chickens, hoe cabbages lol, lay down where ever you want or sit down cross legged anywhere you want, adds immersion

FOLLOWERS CAN RELAX
tell your followers that your gonna stay for a while and hell go sit down, sharpen swords or whatever is around, sleep,

HORSE FOR FOLLOWER

now these arnt my favs cuz it would be too unfair to the other amazing mods i got, the prostitution mods are great too, never seen realporm in a game, pretty shocking and funny

My top 3

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=4210
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=3863
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=2596

If can't tell, I think Skyrim's UI is horrendous.

Most of the rest of my favorites are texture replacers.

Deadly Dragons
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=3829

I play on Expert difficulty. I guess I need to switch to Master.
But the game gets increasingly easier. Ten levels ago, I ran into Draugh Deaththingies that one-shotted me. But they can't touch me now. Forsworn Briarhearts (the melee ones) would then kick my [censored]. But I learned to deal with them too. I guess I might run into other hard NPCs. But dragons were disappointing. Almost from the start. They were a challenge when I was around lvl10. But after then, they became increasingly easy.

But now I have Deadly Dragons.
The dragons do more damage. And they use different spells.
They have armor, so they mitigate 80% of the melee damage you do.
Fire dragons are 100% resistant to fire. Frost dragons are 100% resistant to frost. Etc.
You can configure how much health they have, 100%, 150% or 200% more.
And there are now many more different types of dragons.
All in all, dragons are now an impressive enemy again. I've had to run from some dragons, no way I could beat them. I need to make some enchanted armor with fire/frost/shock resists some day, or else they will kill me in a few hits. Fun.

I use a few mods that enhance eyecandy. Better flora, better grass, hide helmet, etc. Bethesda's high-res textures.

Oh, and of course the improved user interface.
SkyUI - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=3863 and
Categorized Favorites Menu - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=4862

Enjoy !

Curious as to what the communities top mods are. Obviously skyrim nexus is a great place to start and you can search by endorsemants, but I'm sure there's 100's of unknown mods that are excellent.

What is everyone's top 3 mods in the following brackets?

* Visuals/Graphics/Sounds
- Static Mesh improvement Mod - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=8655
- Skyrim HD - 2k - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=607
- Water - Enhancement Redux - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=13268

* Combat, Magic or Stealth
- Balanced Magic - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=2275
- Dragonbone Weapons - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=1935
- Path of Shadows - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=10456

* Immersion
- Realistic Lighting - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=7654
- PISE - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=1269
- Frostfall - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=11163

* Misc.
- Automatic Variants - http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1364221-relwip-automatic-variants/
- SkyUI - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=3863

1. Levelers Tower <--- Makes testing a playstyle easy, but may not be a mod for someone who has no self control when using cheats.
2. Live Another Life <--- Avoids Helgen on restarting characters, and the random option makes for some interesting gameplay.
3. Bag of Holding <--- Allows a character to avoid encumbrance with objects, and it has an automatic sort function for various types of loot.
4. Amazing Jump <--- just changes the jump animation for the player and NPC's in game.

So far I've been getting the most mileage out of http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=13056, http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=13685, http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=11123 and http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=12112.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=13790 is also a great improvement, as well as http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=13102, http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=9089, http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1348441-relz-boyds-better-balance/, http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=10434, http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=14782, http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=13677 and I'm running a number of mods that add small fixes, some new crafting recipes and http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=13092, which uses alternate textures for corpses of actors who die from fire damage.

Currently testing http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=20262 which adds new random story manager encounters - sounds very promising, but it takes some time before the events begin to occur.

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1364221-relwip-automatic-variants/ also sounds extremely promising and I hope to try a few others soon - http://tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/files/file/1139-duke-patricks-heavy-weapons-combat/,http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=12479, http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1359195-rel-tales-of-lycanthropy-werewolf-overhaul/, http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=11139, http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=7673.

Well, only 3? Well, this is going to go over...simply because choosing 3 is impossible :P

The main ones I have are...
Live Another Life, Real Lighting with customization (Redguard's ini) and Real Wildlife and Skyrim Monster mod. also really like Frostfell and Imps more complex needs, which are (along with the others) a must on my mod list.

Those are my top mods.

I also recently got Phendrix Magic Evolved, which adds tons of magic...but I haven't actually tried it yet, looks good though.

On the sideline are Occupy Skyrim OCS (I prefer this over the other similar mods, more immersive imo). I have vampire overhaul. To go along with vampire overhaul, I have vampire FX (but it was hidden on nexus for some reason) and I got Tales of Lycanthropy - Werewolf Overhaul which looks good, but haven't tried it yet. And I always have CBBE installed.

More than 3, but those are the ones I always have on my mod list.

@sounaipr: Any way to turn off the purple / pink automativ variants? Kind of an imersion breaker, for me.

my choices:
1) Extensible Follower Framework (by expired) - allows multiple followers. This one works. With Horse branding, better horses, and the console, I have horses for every follower that I can afford.
Using the CK I make my own followers, but I won't list the .esps
2) Quality worldmap with roads is pretty essential.
3) Live another Life has been a godsend.

I use a lot of lore friendly armour and weapon mods, that look better than the vanilla - not that vanilla is bad. My amazon crew uses the studded armour pretty extensively in the early game (< lvl 20).

In no particular order:

1) - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=9557
I'm glad to see everyone likes this. I find that when using this it is essential to also use http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=9621, simply because I never start the MQ and wind up missing out on all the dragon-y goodness.

2) - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=3198
Highly customizable (and potentially unbalancing depending on your ini changes), adds some really important features in my opinion (like Speed and Jump Height that scale based on your stats) and smooths the whole leveling process. I've found I enjoy playing Skyrim a lot more with this on because I stop thinking about how I want to build my character, and just play however feels appropriate.

3) - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=9494
As someone who usually figures out exactly what side my character will take in every conflict before starting a new game, it's fun to see all the major factions brawling right from the get-go.

...of course the applications which make these possible (SKSE and ScriptDragon), the file managers (NMM, BOSS, and Wrye Bash), and the general fixes (USKP and TESV Layer Acceleration) are vital, but I figure that's not what you're looking for in this post.

Just for the sake of ease,http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1364699-your-top-3-mods/ going to have a lot of the major contenders on it. You can find a lot of the best and most popular just by flipping through this forum and looking for the [RELz] threads with the most pages. The Nexus also hosts http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/top/ based on different criteria. There are a good number of quality mods in every category and sub-category you've specified, many of which aren't compatible, so it really comes down to finding what you like.

I've been looking at the Skyrim HD and the Water redux mod listed in the first bracket. I have heard some people said that they have had conflict with these mods while others said they didn't, does anyone have some more insight on this matter?
