100% fix that has worked for me.

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 7:31 pm

1. Download the beta driver for nvidia (and the equiv for ati)

2. Right click RAGE in steam > properties > general tab > general tab > launch options > type +r_swapInterval 1 (this fix's screen tearing)

3. Steam > Steamapps > common > rage > base

4. Make a new text file via notepad and copy and paste

vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 8192
vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly 8192
vt_pageimagesizeunique 8192
vt_pageimagesizevmtr 8192
vt_restart
vt_maxaniso 4
image_anisotropy 4

5. Save as rageconfig.cfg

6. The file will be rageconfig.cfg.txt

7. Open and save as "rageconfig.cfg"

8. Enjoy the game as it should've been realeased.

EDIT: I've never seen it crash but I had awful textures and very bad screen tearing, now the game looks amazing and I have very very little tearing and no frame rate issues.

Base specs:
i7 2600k @4.7mhz
duel sli gtx 570

You're welcome, everything was copied from steam/nvidia but they didn't address the coverting txt to cfg files. Which stumped a mate, thought i'd try to help others that might hit that snag.

I tried your fix; I am still getting one horizontal band of tearing that is playable but extremely obnoxious. If I spin really fast it gets worse. I have tried forcing vsync and it is not helping. Are there anyother tweaks to settings you have done?

You should have a rageconfig.txt and a rageconfig.cfg in the base folder.

EDIT: Make sure you save it as exactly "rageconfig.cfg" including the "

Fix for what issue, exactly? Can you describe the specific issue(s) this resolved for you?

Only screen tearing? or something else?

I had horrible textures, severe screen tearing and fps issues. If the game is crashing none of this will help.

OK, but I don't have a rageconfig.cfg or the rageconfig.txt in the base folder, the only one I have now is the one I created. HELP, lol!

I have exactly the same problem..that horizontal line. It gets worse in the open field driving or very close to a wall like ghost hideout.
I have exactly the same system too!

*FOLLOW-UP*

The texture artifacting is still present, but it is nowhere near as bad as it was. Some tiles on ground and walls, but not everywhere, only in some places.

go to program files, steam, steam apps, common, Rage, then there you should see the folder named base.

I read up on this but I never did this,

I just uninstalled my nvidia driver, used driver sweeper in safe mode Installed the latest BF3 beta driver for nvidia (if you have nvidia) 285.36

Went into the nvidia control panel White Listed Rage and scroll to bottom and made sure VerticleSync said Use 3D settings.

and it worked well

Got ya! Thx soooo much! gonna give it a try now! another thing that helped me very very much was disabling the Catalyst AI, that made all the difference in the world, went from having like 90% tearing to about 10-20%. Also turned on Vsync through steam, i believe that did some good, too. I'll give this a try now and see if there is anymore improvement. Everything is going ok until I went to Mutant Bash TV, that's when the crashing began for me. Hope a patch comes out soon! thx guys! xoxo
