1111, game's been out a year, and I discover....

...that you can get a bounty in the Orc strongholds separate from the regular hold bounties.

I discovered this by walking through an Orc mine with a lit torch. Hey, when that gas that explodes when it's hit by flame spells meets a lit torch, it blows up too! And oh everyone caught in the explosion thinks I'm attacking them! And... '40 Gold bounty added to Orc Strongholds'.

(I reloaded because frankly I wasn't looking for a fight with the Orcs, I was busy stealing... er mining... their Ebony ore.)

HA HA this is so funny. I also just discovered about orc bounties just a couple play-sessions ago! My Crusader character was searching a fallen orc (he did not attack and kill the orc, a giant did) and he got attacked by the orcs who saw him searching, even though my character did not loot the body.

I have to admit I am very impressed with the 'gas' feature added to several mines and caves. Not nearly as obvious as the oil slick on the floor, but certainly something you have to watch out for.

Did not know that Orcs had their own bounty system. I guess they radio the other strongholds to tell them about it...

I discovered this right off, actually. I was doing the "Forgemaster's Fingers" quest on a character, and I returned at night. They told me to go on in, and I did and initiated conversation with the chief, Unfortunately, some of the orcs thought I was trespassing, which led to a misunderstanding which led to them getting clubbed by Kharjo, and me owing big money to the stronghold.

There are orcs who travel the roads here and there in Skyrim; sometimes they even attack us. I like to think these orcs can travel from stronghold to stronghold, and this is how news can spread.

ha i've been playing almost every night since release and this thread just taught me those gas fumes in certain caves can be ignited...i knew about the puddles but never used a torch around the fumes. It's amazing that a year later i'm finding new things about skyrim

I didn't know about gas fumes, either. 'Til now. I'll bet explosions have happened in some of my games, and I had no idea why, at the time.

These are in Gloombound Mine, which is attached to the Orc stronghold just north of Kynesgrove. There are a couple of patches of gas - look for the shimmering air. I ignited the first one unexpectedly and nobody except myself & Serana got caught. The second one I kinda wanted to see what happened with non-follower NPCs around, so I deliberately walked in with a lit torch, and boom! I get the bounty and all the Orcs are attacking me, and I'm easily dispatching them with my pickaxe (wondering... does this count as a one-handed war-axe? if so, that's my character's specialization...).

This is a great mine btw - 15 Ebony deposits, a few Iron veins as well. Counting the two Ebony ore you can steal from a cart near the entrance, I walked out of there with 47 Ebony ore plus assorted jewels. The Orcs don't care if you're not Orc Kin either, even though they complain about your presence they only attack if provoked (by igniting the air around them and singeing their eyebrows, for instance).

Gas fumes are pretty prolific in Dwemer Ruins. Also in some cave spread liberally throughout the countryside. Look for a slight wavering in the air.

Or just run around full speed with a torch... you'll find them. lmao

My favorite mine/stronghold.

Khajiit has no need for torch, so I guess that's why I haven't seen it yet.

I'm a Vamp Lord so technically I don't need a torch either but there are some advantages to torch light being 'true color' as opposed to night vision, so I use both. Also can't use night vision whilst mounted (you can kick it off, mount a horse, and it sticks... but it goes away eventually and you have to dismount to put it back), whereas you can use a torch when mounted.
