1983: Doomsday

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 3:10 am

Has anyone read any articles from http://althistory.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline_%281983:_Doomsday%29 It's a surprisingly well written and detailed post apocolyptic lore database. (It even mentions the post apocolyptic status of places like Nauru and Norfolk Island in the http://althistory.wikia.com/wiki/World_Country_Profiles_%281983:_Doomsday%29)

If only someone could make a game based on this, it would be awesome.

I was stuck for hours when I first found it as well, I find it incredible how plausible it seems, the US dissolving into a bunch of city states in a wasteland, the USSR relocating to Siberia, Australia being awesome in general, it's mindblowing.

Now I'm posting in the right thread! This looks pretty awesome. I see this is going to be a good time killer for me, which is good because I'm about to be on vacation.

I think the likelihood of a "Celtic Aliance" is a bit far fetched. It's certainly possible that Scotland and Ireland would fall away from the influence of Westminster, but Britain had a lot of Cold war contingencies for maintaining control, I honestly couldn't see England fracturing that much, nor could I see the southeast being controlled by the Irish Government.

Even so, that Lancastrian flag looks awesome!

EDIT: although now I think of it, the lesser affected areas would likely stand a greater chance of survival than the major cities and the capital, and would probably assume far greater autonomy if not total independence from the surviving central government.

Ah [censored], apparently the ROF in my town was hit by a low yield nuke. It was turned into a posh housing estate in our timeline.

Oh well! Relocate to North Lancashire. It is the nicest part of the county anyway.

Which would eventually lead to them amalgamating to the Celtic Alliance, seeing as most of mainland England would be a wasteland.

I just read an article on it about George Harrison being captured by the British version of the Enclave after the apocolypse, this thing is far too in depth

Cleveland looks to be in good condition as well though. There probably would be a gradual unification from Scotland and the north downwards as travel and communication improved.

I know! This 1983 scenario looks like one of the best ones, it has a hell of a lot of depth put into it. I was just reading about the evolution of the Lancastrian Army's crude denim and wool uniforms.

I would like to see a videogame like this, in the vein of Civilisation or Europa Universalis.

If you liked this (and I did!) you could also try Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising - another plausible what-if scenario for WWIII at the tail end of the cold war.

I'm hooked. They even have my county as a separate state (that had legalized raiding of other states for supplies! Go Ventura!) ha. I'm gonna have to read more of this. I'm addicted to post apocalyptic stories.

Kinda depressing, even though where I live becomes a regional superpower and center of learning if i remember correctly.

On a more happier note, I would recommend Superpowers on that site.

And my county becomes an independent state! Although the northern part of my town is made uninhabitable by fallout from the nuke that hits Preston and the ROF... And the southern part that I live in wouldn't have been built until 2003....

The most exciting thing that happened to my city is a US nuclear submarine docking in 1985.

I stopped reading at Sept. 26, 1983. The chances of that part happening is extremely unlikely and if it did happen the story would end there.

Why would it end?

It's not really much of a story anyway until the actual post-apocolyptic part.
