1st Person arm model invisible...

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 8:16 am

So, I tried out an FOV of 90 (originally 75) for awhile, but then I started noticing the first person arm models clipping (invisible) near the shoulder while using certain weapons with certain armors. I didn't notice this right away after using FOV 90, so maybe it has nothing to do with it. Right now I can confirm it for Dragonscale and Dragonplate, and it happens with bows and greatswords (not nearly as bad with greatswords). Once I look down past a certain point, I can see it. But now even when I change my FOV back to 75, or even 65, I can still very much see it. Here's a pic of it when I'm looking almost straight down (this is at FOV 75, I believe):http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/5707/scalebowarmclip.jpg

Does this have to do with something messing up when changing my FOV around, or was it always like this, but I didn't notce it? I mean, I've been using these items for at least dozens of hours now, I think I would have noticed it. And it looks like I can see more of my arms in general at any FOV...

Has anybody else expirienced this? And HOW DO I FIX IT!?

I have to turn the FOV to 55 not to see it, but that's ridiculous. I tried showracemenu, sixchange, and player.setscale 1,but that didn't work. I've tried using default inis. I don't have any mods, and I haven't changed any ini settings that I'm not familiar with. I don't recall anything strange happening where this might have started. The first time I noticed it, I loaded up a manual save that was taken during a dragon fight. This happned a handful of hours after I started using FOV 90, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

I had around 114 hours on this character before trying out FOV 90.

I think system specs are irrelevant (except perhaps 22 inch 1680x1050 LCD with a game resolution set to 1440x900), since I've played about 300 hours across two characters on this system and this has only just started happening.

Set all FOV to game default?....

fDefault1stPersonFOV=65.0000
fDefaultWorldFOV=65.0000
fDefaultFOV=65.0000

These are all in my Skyrim.ini

I have to turn the FOV to 50 not to see it, but that's ridiculous.

I've tried setting those values to 65 and 90, and many values inbetween. Both through the inis and console.

Have you got any mods that may have changed the camera position? Also check to make sure the .ini changes are sticking as the saves can sometimes work a bit oddly....

eg. 'help fov 0' in console and it should show what values you are currently using, may have to scroll i dunno.

Also start a newgame and add the 'problem' items via console to see if its still an issue.

Also is it all greatswords and bows or just specific ones and have you got any mods that added or changed either of those weapon types. Could be that a mod added a bow or GS and changed the viewing position.

I don't have any mods, and I haven't changed any ini settings that I'm not familiar with.

And I would start a new game to see, but... is there any way to skip the damn wagon ride intro? And even if the problem did go away, who cares? I want it to work on this character.

I've only comfirmed it with the Daedric Greatsword and Bow, and also the Nightingale Bow. So I assume it's all bows. I don't even care about this for the greatsword, it isn't nearly as bad as with the bows.

Every other weapon type or armor I try is fine.

It doesn't happen with a bow in the Daedric heavy armor, but the shoulder guard is kind of in my face. For some reason it seems like I'm seeing a lot more of the arms than I should, no matter the FOV setting.

I'll go dig up an older save where I just started using this stuff and see if it persists.

Lol, maybe go to nexus and download one of the many gamesaves people have made (sometimes wish i could skip the wagon ride too).

I guess by your answer that you haven't downloaded any mods?

I remember having a similar issue in oblivion i think, turned out to be an 'unclean' mod that added a bow but also changed a couple of game settings as well. Considering that the CK is awaiting release i thought a mod might have been possible cause.

I don't see why you need to guess when I clearly said:

I don't have any mods

Hm. It looks like it's on the old save too. Is this just how it looks, and I didn't notice it before upping the FOV to 90? Can some one confirm that this doesn't happen to them while looking down while wearing Dragonscale and carrying a bow on FOV 75? A screenshot even?

I should mention that this doesn't happen when drawing back the bow to be fired. Actually it kind of does, but only at the start, once you look up a bit it goes away, and it isn't bad enough to be annoying.

I just tested this out with a basic bow. I think i's just the way the game is by default. If I look straight down with a bow out I get a little open texture area on the bottom left of the screen. If I go back to fov 65 its pretty much gone, but as I move up the fov it becomes more evident. By the way my default game was at fov 75 and it did it a little there as well.

Oops, minor (major) case of skim reading since i missed it a few times..... Sorry.

Anyway maybe upload a save and we can have a look to see if we can replicate? I just had a look see with dragonscale with imperial bow, and just tried with daedric bow (though mines a modded version of daedric).

EDIT-
@Astrocat, odd i can't replicate and i am using 75 as well.... My screen shows the top 1/3 of the bow when stationary, only way for me to see as much of bow and arm in 1st person as in screenshot is when firing.

ok i just changed FOV's in console

75degree = looking straight down, there is part of arm showing some open space but not much (not really noticeable)
90degree = almost the same as your screenshot with noticeable open area.
then i changed back to 75 and back to normal

Which makes me think that your changes aren't sticking

try console
then
Setcamerafov 75

or whatever value.

@Demoche My results are the same as yours just using the "fov" command.

I've tried putting everything to 75, including fov 75 and setcamerafov 75 in the console. Same crap.

Looking all the way down, I had to set fov to 55 in console to get rid of all clipping. Which of course is unacceptable.

Like I said I've tried deleting my inis and letting the game create new ones but that did nothing.

I don't know what else to do...

Going to try a clean install with default inis. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll just get used to it for this character...

Ever done...."saveini" in the console?

Read links in my sig IF you have. The game saves the INI in the Data folder ..could be called anything...look for a file, that is an INI and about 41 k In size.

And above I was pointing out the fact there are 3 different settings for the FOV.

Hope ya get it sorted.

No, I've never done that.

I uninstalled and got rid of any left over files and defragged. Rebooted. Reinstalled and let the launcher make default inis. And I reset my nvidia profile for it to default...

BUT IT'S STILL THERE!!!

troubleshooting.

if it doesn't happen on a new character, then there is a problem with your save.

Simple huh.

Why wouldn't using a much older save do just as well? One 30 hours before this started to happen? Which is what I did, and it's still a problem.

I think you are seeing the default game behaviour, no? Because at anyting but FOV 65 I see this too, when I push to the extreme look down position.
