The first 300 was good and entertaining and the fight scenes were always fun to watch. Seeing the Spartans move in slow motion and normal speeds crushing the enemy from a side view was cool. Looks like it's returning. This will probably be as good as 300, maybe better.

Does 300 really need a sequal though? Unless there's another graphic comic book thing this movie is based on? Just like how 300 was based on a graphic comic book thing too?

It's the Batle of Plateau and the naval battle that raged when the Greek force held off the persians at the pass.

There was a graphic novel about the historical thing, the movie is based on the novel.

The movie takes some liberties with the facts (as movies always do) It was said by Spartan historians that they fielded about 10,000 Helots (slaves), you see some non spartans in the movie, but not as many as were likely at the actual event.

This looks incredible, a must see for me!

Plataea. And the naval battle might be the Battle of Salamis, as Alithinos said. I was too exited to pay close attention during the trailer, but I didn't actually see anything resembling the Battle of Plataea. I was thinking that the naval fights we have seen might actually be the Battle of Artemisium, which takes place simultaneously with the Battle of Thermopylae depicted in 300. The Wiki page suggested that the Battle of Marathon might be in the movie as well, but that would require some flashbacks (it takes place a decade before 300).

edit: on a second viewing, the scene with the Greeks storming those disembarking Persian troops at 0:50 could very well be the battle of Marathon.

No it wasn't, it was based on a comic book that was very loosely based on the real battle. Which is why it's totally over the top awesome.
