Is a 3DS or Wii U worth purchasing?

I just want some opinions. Both of Nintendo's consoles have received substantial price cuts in the UK. Which, if any, do you think is a better purchase? I'm not a massive Nintendo fan, but I simply adore Animal Crossing, Pokemon and Super Smash Bros. There are some others too, such as Wave Race, F Zero and so forth, but Nintendo seem too preoccupied with Mario at the moment. The Wii U is also receiving exclusive Sonic titles, so both consoles have titles that I know for a fact I will enjoy. I'm leaning more towards a 3DS, because it has Animal Crossing and Pokemon, as well as its own versions of Sonic and Super Smash Bros on the way. There's also some cool Japanese RPG games and other titles, if I'm not mistaken. However, I'm not always a fan of playing on such a small screen and I've never been able to see the 3D effect as a wearer of glasses when trying it out in store. Do you think the console is even worth it if I can't see the 3D? If I were to buy a 3DS, should I opt for the XL? It's quite expensive, around the same price as a Wii U in the UK.

Grab the 3DS and buy SMT IV whenever it comes out in Europe. as the 3DS is region locked

I will hold off on a Wii U until SMTxFE gets a date.

I wear glasses and see the 3D effect on the 3DS fine it might be due to most store demos have them at waist level  best seen at chest level.

It is a possibility, but one which I doubt as everyone else I know still manages to see the supposed "3D" fine. Without the 3D, do you think the console is worth it? I like the games, but frankly wish they were for a home console, rather than a small, expensive handheld. The Wii U Basic is being cut to £149 pounds in the UK, which is actually £50 cheaper than a 3DS XL.

The 3DS has a superior library at the moment, but I'm not a massive handheld fan. Gaming on the go is never necessary for me as, whilst I do travel like most people, I'm not one for long car trips or anything such. Most of my journeys are short, to which it isn't worth the hassle of carrying the handheld around, when I can just play some lighthearted games on my mobile for five minutes or something. I wish Nintendo had an accessory similar to that of the old Gameboy's, in which you could play the games through their home console on the big screen.

Of course a console would be more superior but the 3DS has actual games. :P

It certainly seems that way, for the foreseeable future. I like some of the 3DS games, but regardless question whether I'll ever truly enjoy and bother to play them on a small screen. The 3DS is also quite expensive, so it's a shame to waste money which could be used to purchase a PS3 or Wii U.

I don't use the 3D effect in 3DS games, it's not necessary to enjoy them.

The Wii U is getting a Smash Bros. game, endless fun right there.
