3rd Person Improved?

Post » Tue Dec 21, 2010 5:37 pm

I've heard rumors of and "Improved" 3rd person, and I've searched both these forums and many interviews of the developers, and I haven't found anything. (Probably just looking in all the wrong places) But any information would be greatly appreciated.

I never saw anything wrong with Third Person. But yes, they have 'improved' third person.

The running seemed faster when I saw it.

The camera is supposed to be set lower as well.

Thanks guys, I was just wondering if you can actually play in 3rd person now (It might have just been my game copy, but in 3rd person it would shoot Wayyyyyy off the mark) Just gives me even more reason to be "Giddy as a School girl" for this game

In FO3, 3rd person was good for viewing your character in relation to the environment, but for actual shooting, the bullets did not always go to where you aimed the cursor, making it impractical for combat...

Thats not entirely true, You just have to fix your aim. I can't recall which direction, but I know it's just shy of the center, so you have to aim slightly off center. It took a few times, but I got the hang of it.

Point is that you shouldn't have to. I will like it regardless. Fun to have, nice addition to view your character.

I may have to play with it a bit more, but I could never get the aim right in 3rd in FO3... =p

See, what I thought when you said "fixed third person" is that goofy stupid "floaty-run" you did in oblivion and Fallout 3. in third person you look like you're just moving on ice. it's all goofy. They needed to work on giving the character more animations for third person, like better direction detection and stuff. You could be running one way and looking the other, and instead of swiveling at your hips or something, you just continued to "run forward" and just kinda... slide sideways.

I hope they fixed that, it REALLY broke the immersion for me (when I play in third person). otherwise I'd probably play in third person more (I like looking at my character! :P)

They made the behind the back cam look natural, like you can actually see over your characters shoulder while shooting in 3rd person, i always prefferred 3rd person as to first so im happy about this.

Anyone else see the badass pistol holding pose? I should make a badass character with sunglasses, leather armor, and a magnum or a revolver.

Yeah, I believe they said the aiming problem was fixed, and like other people have said, the camera position has been positioned better. Also, there are new, and IMO better animations.

I hope the camera hasn't changed too much as I enjoying seeing my character in the environment. 1st person is less immersive for me and is confusing

I watched a couple of vids (they may be E3 but they are still relevant) but they talked about how the camera angle was improved (but its still adjustable), the animations were improved, and it is actually becoming a desirable solution because you can partially see around corners and see your armor.

3rd person looks pretty decent this time. Not that I use it for anything but checking out my new armors though...

I love playing games in third person.. For a long time I couldn't play in first person at all.. The camera motion would make me feel sick. Which is actually weird because I don't get motion sickness in vehicles or boats.. But as graphics improved and games started coming out that I really thought looked neat I forced myself to play a first person game. Half Life 2 was the game that I finally beat my first person motion sickness feeling. Fallout 3 I played both quite frequently... If I was sneaking/thieving or sniping I'd play in first person.. but a lot of the game I played in third. I'm glad that they improved it but I never really had a problem with it in the first place.

Yes, those were my thoughts too when i read the thread title. I figured out how to get on Third Person View after leaving the vault, only to be horrified by the Skating Lone Wanderer. It looks so horrible that i have adjust to over the shoulder camera similar to Gears of War to enjoy it.

Also, when i was doing the replicated man quest, i was sure the android was the lone wanderer because he/she doesn't have many facial expressions, just "normal" (which looks like a robot) and "angry", they could give the character a more human expression.

Just my two cents.

My characters in F3 get stuck in a snarl expression quite a bit after using vats... which I found annoying.. I too would like a more expressive character..
The skating really didn't bother me. Years of playing games and noticing the skating effect have desensitized me to it I guess.
