816 bit games on 64 bit Windows

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 5:21 am

Upgraded my PC a few months ago from 2.20 ghz intel core 2 duo to 3.4 ghz quad core i7 dell xps.
All of my beautiful sierra & westwood (and other) games won't run in 64bit windows. What do I do?
Is there like... a windows XP emulator, or Windows 98 emulator out there? I saw something on Microsoft like this but they wanted me to buy win7 Ultra to get it and I'm not doing that lol. Home premium is good enough.
Also, saw something called Wine but it looks like the only OS it doesn't work on is windows. Any thoughts/suggestions/answers?
Thanks.

what games in total are we talking here?

Most games that are just a 16-bit installer and then a proper 32-bit game have workarounds to get them working on Windows 7.

Also: Older games will work in http://www.dosbox.com/

Hmmm... I'll have to check these out in the morning. My QFG4 is the CD version though. And I forgot to put Stonekeep on the list.

Thanks for the links!

Is that free? Does it work on windows 7 64 home premium?

1. It's free if you have a copy of WIndows 98 in a box like I do :P

2. Yes, either through https://www.virtualbox.org/ or http://www.vmware.com/products/player/

Thanks DEFRON, I've been playing Lands of Lore 2 all day thanks to you.
I haven't tested the other links you gave me yet, but I'm sure they will be appreciated in the near future.
