Since my char is a BattleMage type and i've never used the bow in the game,was wondering if you could tell me about Archery,is it good or bad,some pros and cons? i'm wondering cuz i have concidered it as a weapon for my next char

I love it, it is what i first picked. And stuck with it, fast killing, lots of staggers and paralyzing. Bassically i stealth attack one shot them, then arrow the next few guys to death usually they dont even reach me and my light armor skill is 100 it doesn't even matter if they do get to me xD

Well it's you're run of the mill long range attack, since you're a mage I would imagine wouldn't be hard to cast "bound bow" from the conjuration tree and see for yourself what it's like ^^

I do not have alot of experience with a pure archer character, but on my main character who has around 60 skill in archery I will say its pretty effective if you keep stocked up on good arrows, use them for stealth attacks and such. On my character I find it inferior to simple meele in most situations because enemies will hit you even if you are backing up and shooting them, arrows can be blocked and your down an arrow with limited effectiveness, its expensive to maintain if you dont manage your money well or are a just too obsessed with wealth to spend it (me).

Its pretty fun and getting those long range shots are great, but it does require far more skill then just hitting something with a sword so it can be more rewarding in that aspect. Later in the game I get 1 shotted by dragons in meele so being able to shoot the bastards makes killing them possible.

Overall it would be worth your time to try out a purest archer(IMO)

I went with straight dual-wielding thief from the begining, but began to use the bow more and more for its long distance stealth attacks. love it.

I play an archer, and it's great. But don't forget archery is at its best when combined with sneak. Most enemies fall to my shots, but sometimes when I have to kill more than one enemy and I'm out of sneak, I prefer to switch to a two-handed weapon, which is faster and easier to land on moving targets.

I find the gameplay very fun, and challenging at times. I love role playing the character, Skyrim is really the best game I've ever played for archery.

you only have to carry one weapon and arrows dont weigh anything but they aren't worth anything.... realy something i dont like about the game but its not gamebreaking for me... i also have a pool on weather or not they should have weight feel free to weight in on ithttp://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1286898-should-arrows-have-weight/

I love archery, but only after you make a rather important .ini tweak on PC.

For some reason there is a distance limit on the arrows, as in if they fly past that limit they just vanish however enemies are still alerted as if the arrows went the full distance.
I'm not on my main computer right now. but if someone can share the tweak which fixes the range problem that would be great.

I personally think Archery is one of the most powerful attacks in this game. Putting aside alchemy/smithing/enchanting pwning crazyness. Even when I have to toe to toe I stopped using other things and just kept on shooting people with my bow. You can get and make some rather sick bows with out using the above mentioned method that will cut your opponents down fast.

Its also all in how you shoot them. Shoot them in the back for the best damage.

Bows are cool, especially in stealth mode. Cool bow moment - taking down some bandits on the big bridge with the two towers (cant rememeber what it was called). I was below on the bank of the river with an orcish burning bow - Was real cool in stealth mode to see little balls of flame dropping from the bridge into the river one by one as I took out the group

Only real drawback is having to unequip the bow to use a heal spell.

Not really bad IMO, since this way you can dual cast the spell for even faster healing.

hmm do you not have many perks in sneak? You seem to use alot of arrows, most of my kills are one hit kills with the bow, unless they are a strong enemy.

i'm loving the perks that come along with archery and sneak.

He doesn't charge his arrows at all, so he ends up doing very little damage with each arrow and having very little range. But with the faster shots he ends up procing more staggers and paralyze shots. Overall it seemed ok, but very wasteful on arrows. It's definitely worth charging up for any stealth shots to take advantage of the 3x damage, though.

Archery is great. Lots of enemies drop bows, so you can upgrade your bows just by looking how much damage they do. My level 14 assassin/thief was using a bow that did 22 damage, and just found a bow that does 30 damage - nice increase. Also, there are plenty of arrows that drop - and they don't weigh anything. Arrows also do damage, so upgrade those throughout the game.

Nothing like going into sneak mode, head-shot, double damage due to sneaking, 1-shot the enemy. Very satisfying.

Now, there will be instaces where you get overwhelmed and you just can't use the bow effectively, that's when a high-damage 2H sword comes in handy. I don't even put skill points in 2H - it will level nicely if you use it when necessary.

Also, if you have Lydia with you, don't forget to upgrade her weapons and armor. She usually gets my castoffs. I make sure she has a 2H sword or something, a 1H sword and board; and a good bow. Usually she uses the bow and 2H sword.
