About how much would a good PC cost for Skyrim?

Post » Fri Oct 25, 2013 4:56 am

I have the game on the PS3, and I like it as is, but after seeing the many cool mods for the game, I've been considering getting it for PC, but I've never been a PC gamer, and I hear a good PC is recommended for games like Skyrim. What would I be looking to pay if I wanted such a computer with anything else that may be required?

That all depends on what you consider good.

Things to consider:

  1. Buying components and building it yourself = always cheaper
  2. Performance levels? the more performance, the more expensive. Want something that will run it graphically on par with the console version? Maybe $300-$400?

All really depends on what you want to do. My suggestion is spend a few extra hundred, say $500-$600, get something decent where you can run a lot of mods and run it on high settings (or possibly ultra), and you will be on par to run some other games as well that are newer than Skyrim.

Though if you're just getting it to play Skyrim and nothing else, personally I think that's a waste of money. If you got the coinage to spare though, go for it.

it really depends

how much RAM do you want, how much Disc Space, are you going for a Hard Disk Drive or Solid state Drive (or in some cases both), what graphics or wireless card you want, how many expansion ports or USB 2.0/3.0 ports...

I would recommend a HD Display Monitor, or hook it up to an HD TV if your TV has the required ports..

PCs are not as simple to purchase as Consoles, the price is going to entirely depend on Specs, Brand, and a few other factors...

if you are not really aware of what your going to need hardware wise, you can always call up your local PC Shop (such as a Futureshop or Staples retailer) and inquire, they will be more and glad to give you some advice on what will be able to play the type of games you want and can easily tell you how much it will cost (and if you don't mind paying a little extra they will likely Build a PC for you which would be more powerful then most things they have in stock (I used to work at Futureshop building Custom PCs for customers))

I agree, don't throw the money required for a decent gaming rig just for one game, only do it if you really wanna switch to PC gaming in general

I bought a 600$ laptop and play the game on high with the 2k textures pack and about 25 other mods-but with 600 you could buy a computer with more powerful processors. A powerful processor is important for Skyrim asit renders all the particles and shadows instead of the GPU doing it.

You really need to get educated on graphics cards and processors before deciding what to buy. Maybe google the computer your interested in, example, "Asus 'model number' Skyrim" and you will find people talking about how the game performs. And I don't recommend less than 8 gbs ram because a lot of background processes will affect performance on a 4gb ram machine for example.
