I absolutely love TES and Fallout, but MMOs...

We all know how MMOs work, you need to spend hours in the game and devote so much time in order to get the best loot.

I quit WoW over 1 1/2 years ago... To this day, it's hard but I feel so much better. I quit because I realise it was taken over my life. Raiding was like a part-time job, doing it every week, at the same time... but it had to be done, to feel achieved and get the best loot.

I'm very scared when I see "MMO" anything, because I don't want to get svcked into it again...

Please Bethesda, make it so casual gamers can be among the ranks of those who play hardcoe.
I don't want to feel pressured into playing the game all the time, or almost all the time just so I can compete with others. Casuals are always getting shafted because there's no competition, those who play the game more than 30 hours+ a week will always be better than you. I don't know to make that possible though...

I'm sure a lot of others feel the same way. I adore TES and Fallout, though they are single player games and we could play them at our own pace. MMOs... well, that's different.

as above and if you don't want to play the MMO then don't. Simply wait for more single player games to be made.

The thing is I DO want to play the MMO. I like MMOs, I just don't like how much you have to play in order to be competitive and mean anything in the game.

Well modern MMO's are now being made with all styles in mind. Recent releases show this, that they are catering to more the casual gamer. Only thing being hardcoe or casual does nowadays is determine how fast you get stuff, not that if you can or not.

While I'm all for more optional casual gameplay elements, designing an MMO to let casual players compete eye to eye with "hardcoe" gamers is, from my experience, a recipe for failure. If it is too easy to compete, there's more than likely nothing worth competing over.

However, I've always been fine not being one of the top players in competetive MMOs. As long as the gameplay is fun, why do I have to be #1? I'm 100% content running dungeons and raids with my friends from time to time, there's nothing that says you have to play competetively.

Yeah, actually now that you've mentioned that I do hate how they approach the more "casual" crowd by simplifying stuff and basically "dumbing it down". (Like simplifying builds/specs etc) I guess if they leave it at how fast someone can acquire something, that'd be fine by me.

That's the thing though, most new gameplay if added to an MMO is based on end-game. If you're not end-game because of time constraints, being "casual", etc... Well, you don't get the opportunity to see the new stuff. Doing the same stuff over and over again can definitely remove the fun from it.

Fortunately for you players will be able to jump into Cyrodiil and compete in the RvR at any time and at any level. Your character's level, similar to GW2, will be adjusted appropriately so that you are comparatively equal to other players in the field.

Raiding is always a different matter and I expect it will be exceptionally difficult in ESO with their approach to AI mechanics and their focus on team-oriented tactics rather than the holy trinity.

If PvE in ESO is similar in any way to GW2, then there likely won't really be a reason to have to "rush" to max level. I plan to approach my own gaming experience similar to how I play a single player TES game. I'll go at my own pace and enjoy the journey on the way. There is bound to be plenty of amazing things and those who rush to max level will just miss out.

More than likely though ZOS will offer different difficulty settings for those who have time constraints and those who have the time to push themselves more. They key to an MMO's success is to not just offer that casual experience, but also have features that appeal to the more hardcoe crowd.

Really if you dont like end game then an mmo need be no different than single player in that when you finish the content the game is over. Just show some discipline and quit when you finish.
