Accidently Sold the Amulet (quest item) : V - Skyrim

I had gotten 2 pieces through looting and also placed them where they are supposed to go (random looting, again), that triggered the quest, belatedly. Now I have to find one more, but the quest is only telling me to go back to the altar.
I don't even understand what the quest is about so I just went off to do other things. I have a hard time getting stuck on the 4 bugged quests I have at the moment (phial,archmage just lying there dead in the courtyard, etc) when I have 30 other quests constantly queued up - almost 200 hours in and still haven't touched the main quest or the civil war much.

360 apparently has these items as normal until the quest is activated.

I have been pleasantly surprised that my previous looting has provided me with several immediate quest successes. I like to explore myself in this game more than do quests - and I still have most of the Reach and the Rift undiscovered. I guess that means I have to take the bad with the good as I decide to get more disciplined and grind quests out.

I want to know how you did that. I had looted a few Briar Hearts and went to dump everything in the house but it wouldn't let me dump those because they were flagged as quest items. Several hours later, I finally get a quest to acquire a Briar Heart, yet now it's bugged because I already had it in my inventory before the quest started. So now it's a quest item that I can't get rid of.

Oh, there's a quest for Briar hearts? I have like ten in a bag in my house
