I still don't know 100% if this game is going to have traditional MMO combat or if they are going to step it up and have action combat. I think TESO needs to do this especially since the game is elder scrolls and the combat has always had a large degree of control and targeting. it would be a damn shame if it was tab target, press hot keep, win. That would be a huge and potential deal barker for me and many of my friends that are interested in this games release. Can anyone shed some light on this for me with solid information?
The interviews I saw, say TESO is going for a "new" system in MMO controls. Essentially it seems like GW2 style 6 buttons. With a SWTOR (BH/T or other clases AOE's) circle on the ground for things you should avoid or help with. So there will be a red circle at your feet which means get out of the way. And a green one that means you can get heals or you can add an attack to help do more damage to any enemy in the circle. People do not have to be grouped to work this bonus effect. Kind of like combo's in console games.
Though I'm not understanding your complaint. All the TES games I have played and read reviews on got horrible ratings on their "action" combat. Of course they did much better on their RPG and free form play reviews. I played Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim. None of them seemed very action orientated in their combat. For instance in an MMO if I am playing a rogue type. I tab target a mob. Move in and then hit hotkey's in a preferred rotation until the mob is dead. In Skyrim, I hit 1 button on my controller, sneak up to a mob and hit him once and he is dead. In truth my skyrim kills guys much faster and is just as simple in it's controls. In skyrim, just like in an MMO. My caster targets a mob, hits him with a stun, then casts attacks or stuns until the mob is dead. The difference is, in Skyrim if things go wrong, I can hit a button to pause the game. Or just reload.
The only real difference I can see. Is Skyrim allows you to use a controller. Most MMO's don't. But in the end it's 10 buttons or less over and over again.
DCO and Tera tried to make action orientated control systems. Apparently they were not exciting enough to keep people playing. Both even let you use your console controller. Sadly this did not prove to be action oriented enough. As neither of these games seem to have created any earth changing differences.
