Activision is terrible.

They're terrible... for having a thieving employee steal from them?

Interesting.

It should have surprised you, considering that person did it without Activision knowing. This could happen to any company, regardless of how their known by the public. The only person to be blamed is the one who did it.

Yeah, there were some news a while ago about a similiar thing happening in a local grocery store I usually go to, some cashier took some money lots of times over the years and then the total amount was like $14k or something.

Think the worst case i've heard of a person stealing money is a Girl Scout troop leader, or something along those lines. The woman used the money to get "perks" and such. Not sure if the group ever recovered the money that woman squandered.

Hah, I wonder how many gamers will justify her acts soley because she's a woman. (Let's not kid ourselves, plenty of lonely geeks who go by 'Female? Clearly innocen!')

What I want to know is, if you are going to steal $29K, why buy six iPads?

Both Kirton and Kaye avoided prison, with Kirton being sentenced for 18 months with a suspended sentence of two years. Kaye was given a nine month sentence suspended for 12 months, and was also ordered to perform 80 hours of unpaid work.
Sentenced to what? It said they avoided prison...in any case...

Stealing $29,000 from a developer equals no prison time and some community service. Illegally downloading a CD equals a 2 year sentence and $150,000 fine?

Guess equality is an illusion...

Wow, I just realized that the justice system is pretty [censored] [censored]. Not that I thought it was decent to begin with.

Our justice system favors those with money and influence. These guys got off way too light imo.

I agree. It's hard to even discuss the reasoning behind the sentencing of these kinds of matters without sounding like a broken record.

80 hours of unpaid work? I can't imagine executives getting paid hourly. Probably some arbitrary number deducted from salary that makes no reasonable impact.

I figured it was some type of community service, like picking up garbage or something. But then I read the link again, it says they were 'ordered', not sentenced. Why the hell would they get to keep their job after this?

I guess I didn't consider that. For some reason the lack of the actual words "Community Service" threw me off. Seems odd.

I highly doubt they'll keep their jobs. They'll most likely be blacklisted from their line of work, basically nullifying their degrees. Sometimes Justice doesn't come from the court system.

Why are they getting off with such light sentences? What part of "embezzeling 29,000 dollars" warrants 9 to 18 months in prison?

I sometimes think the world would be better off if robots determined sentencing, humans are clearly incapable of doing it right.

Dude, what the hell? Nobody made this about gender until you...

A suspended sentence means that if she commits any other crimes (within two years, in this case) she gets that time added on to her sentence. It's basically a glorified slap on the wrist, but it's common for first offences for non-violent crimes. I know it seems like no punishment at all, but bear in mind they'll probably also sue her in civil court, and it's unlikely she'll be able to get another job in the industry any time soon.
