Actor Value Editing

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 1:33 am

One new thing I noticed with this Creation Kit was the addition of an Actor Values editor. Overjoyed at the prospect of being able to create my own skills, I was dismayed to find that while properties of existing Actor Values can be edited and you can create a new Actor Value or duplicate an existing one, certain fields are greyed out and cannot be edited: namely, all the important ones like skill progression, the Actor Value's script name, the value type, etc. The only things that can be edited on a newly created Actor Value are the display stuff.

Can someone from Bethesda please fix this, or if it's intentional, at least give a reason why this was done? Creating our own Skills and Skill Trees would have been revolutionary for TES modding.

No one? I've noticed that some other users are experiencing problems in the same areas.

Anyone else got big issues with this?

I'll field this one.

What you need to do is open the Edit window for Nighteye, and adjust it to be appropriate for Nords; you'll also want to change the spell name and ID accordingly. For example:

Nighteye--->NdNighteye
PowerKhajiitNighteye--->PowerNordNighteye

This avoid conflicts caused by duplicate effects and also makes it easy to match the power to the race when sifting the list to find it. I did the same thing for the Claws power and Argonians; since they're beast-folk too, it made sense to give them a similar bonus.

EDIT: oops, almost forgot. When you click 'OK' it will comment on your having changed the Form and ask if you want to create a new one. When it does, make absolutely sure you click 'YES' in response, or it will overwrite the original form; you NEVER want to do that, as the game will then be unable to find said form when it needs it, which will not end well.

I have been working with actor values as well, I have been trying to implement my own skills into Skyrim, I did modify description, Perk tree, and name. that work and show up in game, as far as getting it to allow you to change the type to skill, that is a ability I do not know how to correct, But I would very much appreciate it if someone would figure out a way or if Bethesda could include this ability.

I'm able to add new Actor Values but unable to edit the fields.
And the Creation Kit will crash next load.

It also seems that Skills and Actor Values are forms of dialogue. However if you try editing one you get this message:

DIALOGUE: TESDialogue trying to use dialogue template for unknown type "AVIF".
