Addicted to Internet drama

Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 8:15 am

Hi, I'm Tranquillus and I'm addicted to Internet drama.

I'm a svcker for Internet drama, particularly gaming trainwrecks. I followed the spectacle of Elemental War of Magic's failure, that PR dude who got all uppity with Penny Arcade, and who doesn't like the classic tale of Daikatana failing to make anyone its [censored]. For basically the past two days I've been obsessively chewing avidly through the drama around the cancellation of Magna Mundi. I didn't play the mod that led to the game, but the lead dev has always been kind of an arrogant ass so I'm taking more than the usual amount of guilty pleasure from this.

I also trawl the community sections of various forums for minor skirmishes of deluded souls who think they can argue with a moderator - the Taleworlds one is best for this because of their acerbic mods. (Though this particular community forum seems to be comparatively sedate.) I've even Googled 'gaming controversies' before, which felt as pathetic as Googling my own name.

It's unhealthy and probably more than a little wrong to enjoy the misfortune of others, but seeing them squirm just tickles me, and the ebb and flow of 'public' opinion ossified in the amber of article comments and forum posts is fascinating to witness.

Is anyone similarly addicted? More importantly (), any juicy trainwrecks you could point me to? Bonus points if summarised in well-written article form on some blog.

I love the occasional controversial debate where I will shamelessly voice my political opinions even if it's about the destruction of the habitat of deep-sea shrimps. :P
But no, I wouldn't say I am much of a fan of internet drama, however if it's funny (such as the girl who tattooed her boyfriend's face on her arm after a week of dating) then I'll enjoy it as I'm never one to pass up a good laugh.

That's not how you use 'cool story, bro'. The phrase by itself already indicates disinterest. If you're going to be catty, do it right.

Well see, that's what's fun about it. It combines the moral outrage and high horses of a real political debate with a complete lack of any real weight - it's harder to laugh at habitat destruction. There's some in the film/TV industry (the recent Chevy Chase/Dan Harmon beef comes to mind), but for some reason the most entertaining ones tend to be from the gaming industry.

Who is EpicFail, by the way? Is the comparison supposed to be a good or bad thing?

Still not funny, but okay. I feel bad now, having been had something I spent ten minutes on criticized by a random person on the Internet.

If I threatened to fight you would that make this an internet drama over internet drama?

There seems to be a bit of a fan war right now on the official Sims 3 board about the game's just-announced Supernatural expansion pack. Many people went total Bieber-squee over giving their Sims magic spells again (although apparently you have to make your Sims into 'Witches' in order to have them cast spells - either that, or shell out an extra $5 for the Spellbook from the Sims 3's online store if you want non-witches to know magic); While others (like myself) thought the whole idea and gameplay mechanic of Sims with magic to be overrated, and would much rather have a 'Seasons' expansion instead (rumor has it EA might also have a 'Seasons' expansion for Sims 3 out by year's end, though!)

Don't get me wrong though, Some of what Supernatural has to offer outside of the 'giving-your-Sims-magic-powers' aspect still sounds pretty cool - the addon also lets your Sims learn alchemy (potion making), and become a plethora of other occult creatures such as zombies, werewolves and faeries...

I wouldn't spend too much time meditating. It could mean anything...

If you want to enjoy internet drama and spaceships, play eve online man. From the goons and their Coalition, Russian RMTers and the hordes of pro elit3 pvpers down south drama always brews. The latest you ask? Goonswarm started up their own "Ministry of Love" to target others players who speak out against them and their leaders by destroying everything they own in an attempt to silence the free speech in New Eden. The forum drama was pretty extreme.
Edit: I forgot to mention the outcry towards goonswarm was because their leader told another play to kill himself when he was drunk at the EVE fan fest on a live stage/stream.

Some PVPers do get pretty crazy. If you want to see some funny stuff get on Roblox this gaming website and kill somebody that is really high up. If they are one of the 9 year olds that play they willl stir up some drama. It's hilarious.

Well all the issues with Diablo 3's always online requirement and action make me feel smug for not buying it. :P

Sure i enjoy drama when i come accross it, but i don't purposely go looking for it.

And you can't spell "drama" without "Bioware Social Network Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 boards" :hehe: The ME3 ending drama actually transcended internet! I was scared there for a while :cold: I havent' been there in a while, but you usually don't need to dig too deep to find some. Around here, the Steam thread is your best bet ;)
