Adding New Warpaint

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 6:10 pm

Anyone know how to add NEW facepaints/warpaints? I don't see any definitions in the categories for them (aside from the color settings)... Ifor a bit, I thought that if you have the texture file in the right folder for facepaints it will simply be available when you go to choose a new one, but I was wrong.

Anyone added new ones yet?

I think I've found it.

If you go to character>race

you can click on an existing race, bringing up a load of tabs for their colours and parts. if you go to "tinting" you can add new types of warpaint.

Thank you, and yeah, I discovered that myself, but when I add any new war paints, they are always stretched across the face in weird banding effects. The editor also screams at me about the wrong size dds files. It says it wants 256x256, and even though I've sized my dds files to 256x256, I'm still getting that warning.

I finally gave up. If you manage to actually get any new war paints into the game, please share here your process and if you encountered the same problem as I did. :)

Yeah, I'm hoping this can be fixed. There are existing warpaint replacers out there, and they work fine, but my attempts to replace or add new ones come up with that error message. It may be the way I'm saving them, maybe they have to be DTX5 or something?

Ah! I have cracked it!

When you save the DDS, notice how tiny the file size is compared to the other tintmasks. It can't be saved in DTX format, you have to save it as something called "R8G8B8" which is 193KB. I did that, and now it shows up in the CK at the right size without the error. I'm assuming this is how the warpaint replacers work.

L8 might also be a valid format. I see that the existing ones don't have mipmaps, maybe that's what's getting in the way?
