Advance quest when object is crafted?

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 4:16 pm

EDIT: Oh, this may be simpler than I thought I'm just blind, and have never dealt with the story manager before. Can I safely add my own quest's nodes to the Craft Item event in the manager without risking conflicts with other mods that do the same thing?

Thanks,
AJV

Yea it's dead simple. I created a new branch ad quest for my own kill tracking quest :)

I don't think this will cause a compatibility issue since the story event Craft Item doesn't display as edited (*), only the new nodes.

Awesome. Does the dialogue bug negatively effect event started quests, or should this one go off without a hitch?

Just make sure you create a new branch or quest node rather than adding your quest to an existing quest node, and in your new node make sure "shares event" is checked--both help with compatibility with other mods.

I've seen some people report flaky behavior with the Craft Item event, but haven't used it myself. Be aware that if your quest needs to be run multiple times, you need to manually stop your quest in order for Story Manager to start it again.

Story Manager events cannot be start-game enabled, so you shouldn't have any trouble with the dialogue bug.

Oh, thanks! That's all super helpful. And yeah, I'll have an entirely seperate quest for each time the player needs to craft, just like how the blacksmithing tutorial is set up. I'll make sure to make seperate branches and share the event.

And good to hear it should run properly!

Alright, I should be able to work all this out. Thanks everyone!
